Medical Relief for Peter Case

Hidden Love: Help Peter Case Pay His Medical Bills Peter Case, former singer of The Plimsouls and critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, underwent open heart surgery in January and has recovered. However, being a singer-songwriter, he has no medical insurance. Hidden Love Medical Relief is a benefit set up by his friends and fans to help him with the massive medical bills. They're looking for donations and planning a benefit concert.

Besides the 80s hit Million Miles Away with the Plimsouls, Case has recorded a number of acclaimed albums, including The Man with the Blue Post-Modern Fragmented Neo-Traditionalist Guitar, Torn Again, and Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John. He definitely influenced my tastes when I first him one day as a high school kid.

I don't appreciate posts that are simply asking for my money. So, no.

I was not aware that one necessarily followed another.

A great cause at a classic L.A. music venue, McCabe's, that certainly points up a problem we have all to often in the US with our broken medical system.

You left off his involvement on the soundtrack for Valley Girl, like gag me with a spoon.

.
and a . for his son, a good musician in his own right.

Hopefully this will be as successful as Sweet Relief.

Suck on it, you snarkers. Yes, there's no excuse not to have health insurance if you can afford it. But Case is a fine musician, and his music has influenced a lot of folks, including me. Besides, for a 50 dollar donation you can get a ticket to one of the benefit concerts at McCabe's; seeing as how the amazing Dave Alvin is one of the named headliners, the "surprise guests" should be awesome. That's the way to do charity right.

Unlike longsleeves, I appreciate this information very much, and will try to make it to one of the McCabe's shows! Thanks.

He could go back in time and move to Sweden.

I am soooooo tempted to create a "there, fixed it for you" comment based on this...

However, being a singer-songwriter average american, he has no medical insurance.

They should take the 2200 bucks from that plagiarizing asshole Jon what's his face over at Stockart and give it to this dude. We still hate that Jon guy, right?

ND¢ re musician & lack of insurance: I was not aware that one necessarily followed another.

they do if you live in new orleans (see: How do I make an appointment at the clinic?), and i'd venture to guess it's much the same across the country, if not across the world.

I dont know how much I could help if any, but Case is an incredibly cool guy, very very talented and funny so that sucks.

I shot this of him on my pocket camera a couple months ago in a coffee shop

However, being a[n] . . . average american, he has no medical insurance.

The U.S. health care system is a clusterfuck, but it's not true that the average American has no health insurance. Around 70-85% of Americans are insured, depending on how you measure.

A few weeks ago, the White House blog had an article which stated that 1 in 3 Americans didn't have health insurance at some point between 2007 and 2008. So, I'm with brain_drain that it is not "average"... but it's also not 85% coverage (and I'm not sure how many ways you can measure "I have insurance/I do not have insurance").

That said, I have extreme sympathy for the people who do not have insurance because they've never had a chance... people who work hard, at minimum wage jobs, working just under the number of hours needed to get employee-subsidized insurance -- people who are getting seriously screwed by the system. Although Peter Case may be talented, he's doesn't fall in that group. He chose to be a musician, and chose to not purchase insurance. That's a gamble, and it looks like he's now reduced to begging? My sympathy is just not there.
