Visual sociology, after contributing to several studies in the early decades of American sociology, disappeared to reemerge during the 1960s.More in-depth description from a 1989 text. From the third heading in the Wikipedia article I was imagining it would get into things like pictographs and other symbols used for communication but it doesn't seem like that.
