She's Asking For It

VH1's show Tough Love gives women advice on how to attract the Right Guy, but when he stepped into the subject of negative attention, host Steven Ward may have stepped into murky territory: he told Arian she is inviting rape if she continued to act and dress slutty. Our culture says blaming the victim is a forbidden act when it comes to rape, but our morals tend to say, well, if she's slutty enough, that particular rape might not be as bad. Arian, Tough Love's 'slutty one', was kicked off the show last Sunday because she needed more help than a lowly matchmaker could provide, sending her off into the night to seek professional advice on how not to get raped.
This post was deleted for the following reason: This is kind of a recipe for ugliness, and I don't know what the hell you were thinking with that last link. -- cortex
Since we're not meant to say that a thread will wendell anymore, can I just say at the outset that I predict that this thread will have an ending that is godawful? Thanks.

Reason #1 not to watch tough love: Everything mentioned above.
Reason #2: you being given advice concerning semantics by people who have absolutely no idea how to perceive semantics.

That last link is completely unnecessary. Please look into the history of rape being used against black people (both women being raped and men being falsely accused of it), and you'll see why it's a juvenile and just overall shitty image.

I agree. This post really sucks, and that last link... which is offensive on all levels: Ebaum's world? Really? And OMG it's racist and out of context with the rest of the post.
Troll somewhere else, please.

Yeah, so not the greatest thing to paraphrase and not provide a direct link to.

Yeah, I agree about that last link. A tasteless end to an otherwise interestingly presented post. I mean, eBaum?

As far as the rest, now that our collective susurus tsuris over ebaum has been vented: VH1 gives a lot of dumb bullshit airtime, but I don't know as there's ever going to be a way to make sure that people don't take the concept of being risk-conscious and over-apply it or be stupid with it, transmuting it into victim blaming. It's the old problem with trying to make soemthing fool-proof—fools are ingenious in their stupidity.
I will say one thing though, I don't think I've ever met a woman who needed to be told again by anyone that she should be on guard against rapists. They seem to get that enough from, well, just about everyone else in the world.
