What was up with Taylor Swift at the Grammys?

I don't believe it's hating on Taylor Swift to point out that she murdered "Rhiannon" at the Grammys the other night. My question is, how could that be allowed to happen?
As much time and money as is spent on that production, and with as large a professional and technical retinue that she presumably has, how is an objectively horrible performance like that allowed to proceed on such a big stage? Is she truly that talentless, and her fans are just uncritical, and the producers just shrugged if off in rehearsals? What's the thought process behind allowing something like that to happen?
