GEEZ, MOM!

There are embarrassing moms, and then there is this lady. GEEZ, MOM!, from Everything Is Terrible.

"You know, we did forget you one time, Tyler." "Yea."

This post was deleted for the following reason: I love EIT to death personally but I think we're getting to the point where we need to cut down on the frequency of posts about it now that mefi readers have a decent chance of knowing it's out there. -- cortex

LOL. I have kids. You have to realize, much of the time, the parents are playing dumber than we are. It's how we get revenge.

Plus, I always thought Foo Fighters was a really dumb name for a band, especially the heirs to the legacy of Nirvana. Foo Fighters, good name for a crappy Japanese TV show. Not a good name for a band.

my wife once left her youngest kid (this was before me...).. in a car seat, on the side of the road, at a truck stop in the middle of Oklahoma or some similar terrible place..

It wasn't a huge problem 'cuz her sister was not far behind...figured she would pick up the girl child...

So... what is it with these two moms that is supposed to alarm us?

Maybe Metafilter should just be a domain pointer to EIT.

Perhaps a banner for their site on ours, and one for ours on theirs?

"Can't you just try it on?"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Ahem, sorry, residual shopping-with-mom rage issues.

The young woman shopping with her mom (the Foo Fighters pair) was reasonably entertaining. But the suburban nightmare roll call mom, that was just depressing. Just really kind of awful. Terrible, in fact.

Also, pretty weak for a Mefi post, this. IMO.

You want to know about colors? Have a twin (and my mom); He's green, I must be blue, and exactly alike in everything but color. Of course when it wasn't green or blue, but exactly alike in everything... aggh. (Wonder if that's why I have a green living room now? Nah.)

Old age is when the brats get their revenge, you know. Be careful.

If the mom is dumb and embarrassing for not knowing what a Foo Fighter is then so is the daughter.

And yeah, I don't get what's wrong here. When you have a bunch of kids, you need a system.

This is very timely. Tomorrow when I call momma I'm going to thank her for:
a) not assigning colors to her children
b) not referring to her children by number
c) not allowing a film crew to follow us around

The Foo Fighters mom seemed to be relatively normal. I love how they blurred out the Eddie Bauer sign when they went to the mall so I'm guessing the original source for this video was MTV.

I'ma let you finish, but Tim and Eric have the greatest surreal mom-themed comedy video of all time.

Perfect name. I had to do it.

No, dad, not "Goats" -- GOATSE. Sheeeeesh.
posted by not_on_display at 7:33 PM on May 8, 2010

They didn't do a very good job of blurring out that Eddie Bauer sign! And why wouldn't they also bleep out 'the Gap'?
Also, Mom #2 (she doesn't know her own kid's names so I don't have to know hers) wasn't wearing her seat belt!
But really, there must be way way more embarrassing mothers out there. I wouldn't rate any of this too high on the embarrassment scale.

Geez, could White Mom be squished any closer to the steering wheel? How can you drive like that?!

And... I see I've been beaten by two people to "Foo Fighter" -- which is excellent, imo.

I liked jacket-shopping-teen. Not a chance. Like there's a chance and then there's not one.

I agree with f.a.m., though -- roll call family was deeply depressing. Though I amused myself by imagining it instead as the colour-assignment scene in Reservoir Dogs.

I saw this earlier, and resolved to thank my mother tomorrow for:
1. Taking me to shop for clothes as often as necessary, which, upon viewing this, I now realize she probably dreaded more than any diaper-related or baby-feeding chore, and
2. Having only me.

That mall at 1:28 looks so familiar. Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY, maybe?
posted by danb at 7:47 PM on May 8, 2010

None of this is embarrassing. Having a parent who forces a teenager to stand still while said parent attempts to pop said teenager's pimple in a crowded restaurant is embarrassing.

I liked the blonde lady. She seemed organized.

Already sold as a new sitcom on Monday night, immediately following "Sh*t My Dad Says"...

I don't claim to know what raising six kids is like, but we don't need a special system to keep track of three. People organize much larger groups of children every day for field trips, summer camps, and classrooms without restoring to numbering them or forcing them to wear a unique color. It's bit ridiculous.

That was the most depressing prank, carsonb. I'm a sucker for energy drinks, but I'm not touching that one. Sure the lady's high strung, but god damn.

Oh man. I have to stay away from EIT when I've been drinking.

Where are you... Satan?!
posted by Durn Bronzefist at 8:20 PM on May 8, 2010

I think this surge in EIT posts is going with a prediction I made when I first found the blog: that there is a burgeoning interest in older media (such as VHS) because it contains imperfections and quirks that digital media can't reproduce. Part of this is novelty, as the format is clunky and prone to breakage. Part of it is nostalgia. The Bush Years were so terrible, and the recession is also terrible, that the only culture worth anything is the warm spot between the tacky 80's and the new millennium.

Anyway, LOLMOMS. I'm calling mine tomorrow.

That was the most depressing prank, carsonb.

It's a pretty mild prank. Their kid neatly stacked objects against their walls. The worst thing he did was knock over a hatstand. Hardly seems worth the running-around hysterics she had.

The lack of seatbelts is instructive. I think I hate her.

Hardly seems worth the running-around hysterics she had.

I've gotten very similar reactions from my mom for doing much less than that. This is something I could have expected for having accidentally spilled one of those energy drinks somewhere innocuous, like a tile floor or a bathtub or something.

And the dad's reaction is awesome. "He knocked everyth...he threw down my...He must be mad at us, Mary.'"
