Lady Gaga's Feminism

Lady Gaga, the new Simone de Beauvoir? New York Times Opinionator blog analyzes Gaga's brand of feminism.
This post was deleted for the following reason: I think Lady GaGa has gotten to the point where unless she can plug the BP spill we maybe don't need to hear about her for a while. Nothing personal inara it's just an ebb/flow sort of thing. -- jessamyn

I am constructing an animatronic Lady GaGa robot out of Lego. Prepare yourself for the greatest collective Metafilter orgasm of all time when I link to the pics and video!

I can honestly say that - all of her music and work aside - if I never see this woman's name again, I'd be a happy man. Give us all a break, please.

I have seen this routine before.
It was back in the 1980s. The performer was named Madonna. She was an outspoken, charismatic artist with a strongly sexual persona.
Academics tried to find some sort of deep, empowering Feminist Message in her act. I guess it helped her sell some records. And it helped the academics gain a little relevance with their students. A good deal overall.
History repeats itself.

Why can't famous women just BE without having to embody a Theory of Women?

Please no more Lady GaGa posts. Until the one where she's outed as a CIA experiment to see if we can pontificate ourselves to death.
