For the next two weeks, an outdoor art installation of 60 pianos painted by 15 local artists will be scattered throughout the five boroughs of New York City, complete with benches and songbooks, for anyone to play. Created by the non-profit group Sing for Hope, the pianos include a simple instruction: "Play Me, I’m Yours"
Locations (pdf) / Related Events & Performances Including a bedside performance on 7/7 at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, and a "culmination" performance on 7/5 in Lincoln Center. / Video from the Village Voice
From the Sing for Hope Website:
A scene from a new opera, "Paul's Case" will be performed on the pianos. Also, a Tennessee rocker attempted to play all 29 pianos installed at Manhattan's parks, only to find that nobody blazes through Manhattan."

Play Me, I’m Yours, an artwork by British artist Luke Jerram, was presented in London, São Paulo, Bristol, Birmingham, and Sydney in 2009. With the support of the Office of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sing for Hope will open Play Me, I'm Yours on June 21, 2010, in conjunction with Make Music New York, and end the street pianos' public residency with closing concerts on July 5, 2010. Celebrities lending their endorsements and/or giving performances include Alicia Keys, Actress Lauren Ambrose, Celebrated Baritone Nathan Gunn, Broadway performers Tituss Burgess and Emmy winner Kevin Mambo, and the cast of the Tony-winning revival musical HAIR.Some of the pianos were painted by visual artist Sophie Matisse (great-granddaughter of Henri.) Jazz station WBGO interviewed her along with Camille Zamora, co-founder of Sing For Hope, tuner Fred Patella and pianist Helen Sung. here.
During their two-week public residency, the Play Me, I’m Yours pianos will be decorated and cared for by “piano buddies” from local schools, hospitals, and community organizations. Upon conclusion of their public service, the pianos will be donated to their buddy organizations to be enjoyed for years to come.
