This post was deleted for the following reason: HOW MANY AIRBENDERS ARE THERE -- cortex
It's as if the universe has predestined this site to have a post about the live-action Last Airbender movie.

But, but, is it racist to cast non-white actors into European roles? People who do this are progressive, right?

When Europeans start finding themselves unable to find work playing European characters in media, we can talk then.

I might be missing something, but I haven't noticed this happening very often.

I'm confused. Something's only racist if you think it's bad then? Or it's only racism if it affects non-whites?

An argument could certainly made that whites being passed over in favor of other ethnicities is racism, but it ignores centuries of the opposite being the institutional standard. I'm not aware of centuries of oppressed caucasians.

As I said in the other thread, it is likely that M. Night made casting choices based strictly on what would attract larger audiences to the film, rather than what would be true to the source material. Further details on the problems with the production.
This problem isn't restricted to Hollywood.

"The play is about an Native American chief who at first befriends White settlers but through politics and a series of betrayals, eventually retaliates against the impending colonists, ultimately dying in a climatically melodramatic scene."
Climatically melodramatic. It's lightly snowing, the wind is swirling the flakes around...
