Anime director Satoshi Kon passed away yesterday, apparently from pancreatic cancer. While many people associate anime with children's stories and fluff like Dragonball Z, Satashi Kon's films tended to delve deeper into literary and psychological ideas.
Satashi Kon's first film PerfectBlue was a Hitchcockian thriller that blurred the lines between fantasy and reality. He went on to create several mindbending films: Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, the series Paranoia Agent, and the mindblowing Paprika.
