Oscars Smoshcars, here's the Felix awards.... Michael Musto at his bitchy best, handing out dishonorable mentions to a variety of media and showbiz faux pas. Any other year end articles worth a read out there?

For a British perspective on the best books of 2001, try the Economist. Interestingly, "Seabiscuit" has popped up on other lists, never thought I would be interested in a book about horse racing.

He may be bitchy but I don't find him very funny. Now Bruce Vilanche there's one hilarious gay guy. Musto is just nasty and bitter.

Jim Romenesko's Obscure Store 2001 favorites collection is abuilding.

I've met Bruce and he's creepy, not funny.

Well, the link's busted now. You'd think the Voice had bandwidth--it can't be down because of the post, can it? Still, I wonder how many sites are crashed in a year after a post here.

Well, I got there. If he ever joins MetaFilter, I suggest his nickname should be feelingverylistless--and that's with a list.
I agree with him about Ghost World--but that was a given.
MrBaliHai
has met Bruce Vilanch? Yikes!
I met Dr. Demento at a Tower Records one time and asked him about a John Fahey record he produced.
Got a cold fish stare for that.
Hmm, when's the last time someone's done a My Brush With Celebrity thread? I went to Sandra Bernhard's niece's bat mitzvah--and guess who sang a beat longer and some decibles louder than anyone else...

I got there too, after a half-browser-page of SQL errors, but I think they were for ads (cookie-o-puss? WTF?) at the top of the page.

Musto does seem more bitchy than funny, as brian pointed out, but I loved the Most Ill-Conceived Headline.

Of course, for that I could just watch Leno on Mondays.

Page error should be fixed now. It was a tech error, not bandwidth. Cookie-o-puss is the name of the system for tracking visitor's cookies, an homage to the Carvel cake and the dulcet tones of Tom Carvel's voice.

And, for the record, Musto is quite pleasant in person.

Back on topic, a lengthy list of year-end wrap-ups over at Kottke's site.

Cookie-o-puss could as easily be a reference to the Beastie Boys' first hit song (way back when they were no-ones)

I had to agree with his comments about the patriotic CDs and such. I just remarked to my father last night (after yet another "The U.S. doesn't suck commercial" that "I'm glad 9/11 happened so that all those failed Country and Western singers have a chance to revitalize their careers."

Oops, poor use of quotes (before someone says something).

Mea culpa...

MrBaliHai has met Bruce Vilanch? Yikes!

And believe it or not, I had absolutely no idea who he was at the time.

Because if you had, you would have driven a stake through his heart, right? Please say yes.

At the time, I would've willingly driven a stake through his heart even without knowing who he was. But actually, I think that drowning him in a vat of tie-dyed t-shirts would've been more apropos...

Can't resist, since this thread has been hijacked. Here's Bruce Vilanch.

Hey, shouldn't that be Oscars Shmoscars?

What'd I tell you--rodii's meds are wearing off. If we don't get to him soon, no more Find The Little Green Man. Then we'll be in the soup, for sure.

i didn't find the bulk of the article that interesting, but the olive garden comment actually made me laugh out loud.

So what kind of bike does Michael Musto ride, anyway?
