Spector has a history of erratic behavior. I admire the heck out of his artistic work, but am sad to say this doesn't come as a surprise. His life could be turned into a Greek tragedy.

"booked for investigation of murder "
Sounds like he was charged with investigating a murder, not committing one.

Just giving more weight to the "evil" part of "evil genius."

There's a quote from someone, i can't recall who, that went something like: "Sad to say, but you could put together a great band out of the musicians that Phil Spector has pulled a gun on."

Shane, you have a point, but check out the article's lead:
"LOS ANGELES -- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame producer Phil Spector, whose revolutionary techniques changed the sound of pop music in the 1960s, was booked for investigation of murder Monday in the shooting death of a woman at a hilltop mansion, deputies said."

Sorry, 111, I should have specified it was a quote from the article, not from you. Their bad, not yours...

Let's all try and remember this: the guy's a genius -- invented the wall of sound, like it or not. Crazy bastard.

So if Robert Blake is 0, and OJ is 100, where does this rate?

"In 1980, Spector was working with the Ramones on the album End of the Century. While recording, he allegedly pulled a gun on the band in a dispute over master tapes". The latest headline says "Spector was charged with murder" as opposed to "taken into custody for investigation for murder"...can't really blame the cops since everyone knows they Da Doo Run Run.

I'd say a solid 45. With a lot of reverb.

For a couple years when I was a teenager we had season tickets for the LA Lakers. . .
There was a person who sat in front of us who was obviously rich. He always arrived late, with a couple of body guards, and no matter how close the game, left early. His retinue used to bring him hot dogs, and he would eat only the meat out of them. He was especially fond of Wilt Chamberlain.
My sister and I knew this was a strange guy. Then we saw the 'coke' scene in Easy Rider, and recognized the guy in there as they guy who sat in front of us.
I am not sure if this little story has a point, but I don't get that many chances to share it and this seems like a good one.

"A lot of these things were overblown and a lot of these things were alcohol-induced," Marky Ramone said. "You can have a gun and wave it around but that doesn't mean you're gonna use it.
Riiiight. Alcohol-induced firearm waving is not at all dangerous, unlike a sober guy waving a gun at you.

Does anyone know if Phil Spector the one who tried to make the Ramones use a string section on their album? If so, he should have been locked away years ago for that heinous crime.

Phil Spector was The Connection in Easy Rider, in case anybody missed Danf's reference. Cool and applicable story, Danf.

I can't believe the AP hasn't fixed this glaring factual error yet: Spector produced records for Elvis Presley... No, he didn't.
