I'm about to, like, reach an epiphany

Racist rant goes viral: Asians in the Library. As the number of "international" students in the US continues to rise, Alexandra Wallace, a junior at UCLA, takes a moment to share some choice thoughts. “The problem is these hordes of Asian people that U.C.L.A. accepts into our school every single year, which is fine,” Ms. Wallace said in the video. “But if you’re going to come to U.C.L.A., then use American manners.”
This post was deleted for the following reason: Okay, some random person said some stupid racist shit. Duly noted, probably not something that needs to be a metafiler post. -- cortex
Looks like someone's angling for a hosting gig at Fox & Friends.

The problem is these hordes of racist shitheads that get into UCLA every single year, which is fine. But if you're going to be a racist shithead, don't post it on Youtube.

A college student in the midst of finals week does something stupid. She's a dumbass, but I think her apology was sincere, so I don't see a reason to rehash this here.

Indeed, they should have just gone one with their day calmly the way Americans did on 9/11.

I haven't watched the video so I don't know the actual content, but I did read the NYT article and in that context calling to try to reach family members in Japan after the quake is understandable and falls under the extraordinary circumstances exception to good manners. However I wanted to add that Americans who travel abroad and expect the rest of the world to make accomadations to American sensibilities when abroad are usually refered to as 'UGLY AMERICANS' and derided, so expected foreigners to abide by local standards and manners is not, in and of itself, racist.

This is not the best of the web. A young, non-famous person said something offensive. Who cares?

It takes a peculiar intelligence to do something in such a way that it's going to follow you for the rest of your life. I feel sorry for folks like the Star Wars kid, who was thrust into net notoriety, but here is someone for whom lifelong notoriety is an act of volition. What did she honestly thing the upshot of this would be?
Hope you enjoy hearing about it 15 years from now when applying for a job, young lady. That's the future you have made fir yourself.
