Journalists killed by stray bullets and bombing is not news, although a decent news service would include an article abut such deaths as a tribute. Journalists being treated as the enemy and murdered at point blank range is most assuredly news.

To me it's the unasked question: "who do you think did this?" Bin-Bin and the Taliban are the boogyman now, but that is a rough piece of turf.

Mark Jurkowitz, Boston Globe: "In contrast, the Department of Defense reports only four US military deaths related to the war, and none of those occurred inside Afghanistan... ''I would think that anybody who is over there is pretty brave,'' said Atlantic Monthly editor Michael Kelly, who as a freelance reporter traveled with coalition troops as they liberated Kuwait City during the Gulf War. 'With all the bad press the press gets ... a lot of people spend many years of their lives risking their lives.'"

I doubt this is the Taliban. They're freaks, but they're predictable freaks, and they seemed concerned with their PR. This sounds like the work of some al-Qaeda members; there have been murdered aid workers in some Muslim war zones, which now look more and more like al-Qaeda inspired ruthlessness.
Several of the al-Qaeda training camps and bases were in the Jalalabad-Kabul corridor.

What's your point? That they should stay in New York and trust the Defense Department press release?

One of them was a friend of a friend of my boyfriend's (convoluted, yes, I know). My boyfriend's friend could have been in Afghanistan if he didn't leave his cameraman job.
Scary.
