Well, given that my border collie is far superior to a certain subset of humans...

And given that cows/sheep/chickens are superior to yet another subset of humans...

Why not just lets eat those humans? There are plenty of anencephalic babies and brain dead humans around. Just think..."Dr. Babies" could come up with a few hundred recipes for Toddler Torts and Flambe Infant.

Why, think of the thousands of children born each year with various defects that doom them to a relatively few months of life. Really, doesn't it make sense for the beef or pork industry to do some marketing research here?

"Babies: the other white meat."

Eat them. Just kill them humanely. Please.

I talk about this and other Korean stuff at length on my blog. You can get there through my profile if you're interested in a lengthy opinion (well, several, over the months) from someone who lives there (but isn't Korean). A brief summary of my opinion on this latest : Go Dr. Dogmeat! This is a far better approach than the half-assed attempts to cover up the pratice during the '88 Olympics, which was the last time that Korea appeared on most people's radars (other than Boong-ga Boong-ga, of course. Go go gadget finger!).

I'll note in passing this thread from last month about boshintang (dog soup), but this post, bar the fact that it addresses the same general topic, isn't a double post, I'd say.

One-step-service: stavrosthewonderchicken's blog is a sophisticated education on these matters. And others. Mainly others!

I spent some time in Korea long before most readers were probably born. I had resisted eathing most Korean foods. Now, my son, living and teaching in Korea and married to a Korean woman, eats just about everything. I suspect he would not eat (knowingly) dog, but that merely reflects upbring and cultural habits.
In general, we raise many different animals for skins or for food, and though many of us would not eat horse, others do.
Dog tastes a lot like chicken. What doesn't ?

Just a question, why should dogs be killed more humanely than any other animals that are killed for food?

I know, for example that in some cases, chickens necks are cut halfway and they are allowed to run around squawking till they bleed out before being plucked and cut up.

fold_and_mutilate: that's quite a modest proposal you have there.

Eating meat is a disaster.

Well I really don't think there is any good moral argument for us to not eat dog meat if we eat cows, chickens, goats, horses, sheep, pigs, rabbits, duck, etc. Mmmm, I'm drooling just thinking about them...

What sets these animals apart from dogs, however, is that dogs are carnivores. It doesn't seem to make sense from a capitalist standpoint; you need a supply of the product (meat) to feed the product (meat). Unless it tastes better than other meats, what's the point?

"fold_and_mutilate: that's quite a modest proposal you have there."

It's a common theme for our vegan* friend fold_and_mutilate:

"...why not just go ahead and test your worthless little products on microcephalic or otherwise severely retarded children?"

Since he* values animal life as much as human life (at least, human life with some sort of birth defect), it's really not much of a leap.

It doesn't seem to make sense from a capitalist standpoint; you need a supply of the product (meat) to feed the product

they've been feeding low grade meat to farm animals for years - that's how that whole mad cow disease thing got started, remember? (There was a recent thread about the fact that euthanized pets often ended up in pet food & farm feed.) When "the product" isn't good enough for humans, it goes into the animal feed, which of course ends up producing cannibalistic cows, which is weird but there you have it.

Anyway, dogs are omnivores. They could live off a non-meat diet if a capitalist deemed it the thing to do.

I don't understand people who wouldn't eat dog but happily eat pig etc. It seems so obviously hypocritical (it isn't a matter of taste as they make the decision without actually tasting it) - are there any vegetables that people would make such a choice about?

It seems so obviously hypocritical

There are certain societal stipulations they've become accustomed to..

are there any vegetables that people would make such a choice about?

I don't eat eggplant on principle. I'm just that way.
