Well, since I missed out on the first thread, here's my two cents: the findings of the study that indicated, "Jokes mentioning ducks were considered particularly funny."

I think it makes a difference reading it versus hearing it told. I skip over words (thank you seventh grade Reading Lab) especially when reading online, and imagine the pace and intonation of telling it out loud make a big difference. Repetition of the punchline also helps ("Pancakes, anyone?").

The joke is that people who supposedly are interested in Metafilter can't be bothered to scan the previous day's FPPs before reposting.
