We are all made of stars meat.
Some people wear their meat on their heads, some on their feet.
What to wear with your meat pants? A potato shirt.

Thank you. I love that story and hadn't thought about it for a good long time. "Yes, thinking meat! Conscious meat!"

Tagline sense... tingling...

Five cent cotton and forty cent meat,
How in the hell can a poor man eat?

Oh how I loved Omni. They always had great fiction. Thanks for posting this -- best short story I've read in awhile.

A fun Bisson story, hearkening back to...

"He is my dog, Toto," answered Dorothy.

"Is he made of tin, or stuffed?" asked the Lion.

"Neither. He's a--a--a meat dog," said the girl.

Throughout the Oz series, Baum was fascinated with this idea of distinguishing between organic and inorganic characters by calling the former "meat." The Tin Woodman eventually has a book devoted to his returning to his roots and finding the "meat" portions of his body, conversing with his old "meat" head, etc. and there's much ballyhoo over a race between the saw horse and "the meat horse" in another.

I join the chorus. I read that story in a store and loved it so much I bought the book, which I then gave to a friend. Thanks for giving me the chance to read it again. Great post.

Yep. I especially like, "Pork. The one you love." But note that the Bisson story is there too, only without any credit. Booooo.
