Go Pies!

This is awesome. I haven’t seen much for scoreboards like this. Most sports in US is really corporatized, even down to the school level, so all the counties have contracts with Pepsi and they get a generic scoreboard and a bunch of Pepsi/Gatorade/ Aquafina vending machines in the school.

But as a sportswriter covering high schools for a rural newsweekly, I got to run the scoreboard kind of a lot, once both teams found out I didn’t care who won. Mostly baseball, bc those games are long and cold in the early spring and nobody wants to sit in a freezing cold plywood box on stilts in the April wind, keeping up with balls and strikes, when they can be in a sleeping bag in a camp chair behind home plate with a bucket of nachos on top of the score book.

Awesome - thanks for this. I would so love to visit the Tiwi Islands and experience that grand final day.

Thanks [not?] for whisking me in a time machine back to to 1965 to be hanging ~A5 metal sheets with digits onto the cuphooks of the scoreboard at school. The boards are the mere executive summary. The details were being totted up ball-by-enervating-ball in a score-book.

This is great! Perfectly niche and relevant to my interests. Thanks for posting.

Bye bye The Gabba, you will be sorely missed.
