Daschle, Gephardt: 'political strategy is working' "WASHINGTON (CNN) - As cable networks projected continued Republican dominance of the House and a Republican takeover of the Senate, two leading Democrats met with reporters to announce that 'everything is going according to plan' and the future of the Democratic Party looks bright. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle expressed optimism about Democratic prospects for the next elections, saying that "our strategy of leaving no daylight between ourselves and the president is clearly working. Although in today's election the voters were still able to distinguish Republicans from Democrats, resulting in some lost seats for us, I'm confident that by 2004 we will regain our lead by becoming utterly indistinguishable from Republicans."

Great humor!!

Although I don't feel like laughing now, the less immature part of me is telling me that thats silly and that the country is not going to dissolve because of this election, and chuckling rarely hurt anyone.

The article does have a point, though, and I expect dems to start drawing a lot more contrasts between themselves and the White House over the next two years in response to yesterday's results.

From whitehouse.org link:

JOCKS WIN! NERDS LOSE! BOO-YA! 100% of America is down with the GOP - and as for any handful of tweed-wearing Democrat Marxist effwads out there - if they know what's good for them, their tax returns, and their retard children's worthless futures, they'd better start showing us some make-believe respectitude starting YESTERDAY!

I love it. :-)

I don't feel like laughing now

Are you kidding? I'm still laughing at the idiocy of the Democrats today and plan on laughing a lot more. It's the best medicine, you know - for us *and* folks like Gephardt.

You want to know what's *really* funny? Until I got to the "leaving no daylight" part, I honestly believed those two clowns would say something like that. Their stupid strategy played out locally across the country, too. It was hilarious to watch NC Dems, e.g., obviously scrambling down the wrong path over the last few months. [self-link]

only suv driving suburban clowns are laughing here in minnesota - mondale strongly carried the urban areas of the state as well as the north woods - while norm found his votes in the endless voids of the suburbs now filling the plains.

Though I regret how things have turned out, I am pleased that we now have at last something I had always wanted:
One party (either one) running the Congress and the White House...any blame or credit can now be readily assingedinstead of don't blame me cause there was this or that party also in power.
The further good news: Gary Hart thinking of running. His running mate may well be Bill Clinton...now we will see who gets a licking!

Good point postroad, now we've got plenty of comedy and satire fodder for the next two years, at least! I feel all better now!

Until I got to the "leaving no daylight" part, I honestly believed those two clowns would say something like that.

That's one part Gephardt actually did say:

“There’s no air and there’s no light between the president and the Congress, and between the Republican and Democratic parties,” intoned the courageous Gephardt. “We stand shoulder to shoulder.”
