Basic Hip Digital Oddio - About ten really good Metafilter posts in one place. Way too much good stuff here. I'm going to list a few things that I really enjoyed, feel free to discuss anything else on the site too.

Tony Schwartz: Documented life in NY from a personal wire recorder. Listen to this endearing 20 min winamp stream of his adoption of a dog. For the International Typographic Association, he attempted to produce what type and lettering might sound like.

Brother Bones: Listen to this legend 'play them bones' on the definitive Sweet Georgia Brown (aka: Harlem Globetrotters Theme).

Gerald McBoingBoing: Dr.Seuss tale as told by The Great Gildersleeve.

Kenyon Hopkins: Incredible unsung composer, check out Esquire's Sound Tour series.

Stan Chin, I browsed quickly through the site and called in sick at work (in a soft, but squeaky voice: "It must have been something I ate") No way work is going to ruin my day. The sound of typo, I always knew there was something more serious going on than a concert I saw once of some avant garde fringe head drummer who "played" the newspaper. That sucked big time, it sounded like an Arial Black from the beginning to the end.

The Tony Schwartz links are good. More quirky audio, please. Submitted for your listening pleasure: a 1964 IBM printer, programmed to play music (scroll down a bit). God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman is a good seasonal choice.

When I was a kid in the Fifties, Gerald McBoingBoing was one of my favorite cartoons. My dad had a 16mm projector and would rent cartoons and documentaries and The Red Balloon and stuff from the St. Louis County public library; then we'd get the neighbor kids over and have film nights.

Gerald McBoingBoing was pure magic to me.

Yes, Secret Agent Radio is very, very good. But could someone explain the fascination or passing interest people have in Patience and Prudence? It boggles my mind. Maybe before my time.

This is the super coolest post of the year. Thank you! This post is akin to getting that rare and amazing gift you didn't even know you wanted and until you unwrap it. I've loved Patience & Prudence ever since hearing A Smile and A Ribbon on the Ghostworld soundtrack.

Stan Chin - Thanks! Great post. I especially liked the "Patience and Prudence"/"Very nice is Bali Bali" song. The 50's were a weird time in the US, I'd say.....
