Beautiful, y10k. Vertigo would be one of my favourite films if only I could get over its beauty and actually see it once, instead of just watching, transfixed.

Funny you should mention "To Catch a Thief", Vidiot... Here, from the indispensable MacGuffin website, is the kind of wonderfully pretentious conjecture that Vertigo has always inspired. And what's still the classic Hitch website - whatever you do, don't be put off by its lousy appearance!

by the way, rephotography is fascinating. I've been interested in the idea ever since reading Stewart Brand's truly excellent How Buildings Learn, in which he studies how buildings and their uses change over time.

There's a whole book on Hitchcock's Bay Area films--"Footsteps in the Fog"-- published earlier this year. Quite a nice look at the "then" and "now" of the Bay Area locations of many Hitchcock films.

I've never been to SF, but Vertigo is one of my favorite movies, and I absolutely love this kind of then-and-now comparison, especially when done with this level of attention to angle and detail. In short, thank you, y10k!
