Blessing of the Cars. This Saturday, at at Hansen Dam in Los Angeles, there will be a mass blessing of cars by a Catholic priest, followed by individual blessing of each vehicle.

and then immediately followed by the Blessing of the Smog:
"O Lord, we beseech Thee, bless Thou this Holy Brown Smog of the City of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels, so that those who breathe it, those whose eyes water from it, those whose lungs close up from it may cough and weep and make snot for the greater glory of Thee; that these blessed vehicles may contribute to Smog Alert the First Stage, Smog Alert the Second Stage and Smog Alert the Third Stage, mirroring Thy Holy Trinity; and may the Big Brown Bilious Blob blanket and obscure the view of Thy glorious city ... in Thy mercy. Amen."

actually, the 'lakeshore' blessing is an upstart, the 'real' blessing occurs near baldwin, mi in late may.
