CarPants

"pants" is a deragatory british term, referring to underwear. "ugly", "crap", "shite"... it's used just to say that something is far from good. "that's pants" or "this music is pants"; in this site's case, very ugly cars.
and what we call pants, they call trousers.

A couple years ago I read this article at The Register about OSX, which contains the quote:
"Carbon stuff, while relatively crash-safe and smart about RAM, has no additional multithreading or multitasking capability. Cocoa stuff (like OmniWeb) is pants*. It is super responsive, flexible, and looks like jelly candy, while rocking massive Unix old school."
Knowing that things that rock massive Unix (especially if its done old school) are Good, I inferred that "pants" translated to "good". Apparently I neglected to read the footnote at the time.

Q: What's the difference between a suit and a tired dog?
A: A suit is a coat and pants. A tired dog just pants.

It's kinda weird seeing a euro version of one of these sites -- your cars already look a little strange. I guess what I'm asking, though, is... what's wrong with this car?

Maybe its a commentary on todays car manufacturer's lack of design diversity. Sokme people don't want their cars to be the same boxes their neighbors drive.
or maybe its a commentary on the fact that most people don't have good design sense.
and when the two collide we get this which might be functional for the owner's purposes but does indeed look like "The worlds first mobile toilet".

what always bugs me about this kind of discussion is that it seems to assume (no doubt i'm wrong to suspect such a thing) that there are cars that are cool, life-affirming, good, or otherwise non-pants.
i wonder how many people posting/reading/submitting photos to sites like that assume that their car - or some car of their dreams - makes them a better, more exciting, person? or at least identifies them as definitely non-pants. which is a little bit sad, no?

Speaking of 'whats wrong with this car', whats wrong with this car?. The Citroen Ami (here) had character, attitute and balls, quite unlike this thing. that must be the epitome of over focus-grouped global brand bland-orama.
Cars will be the death of humanity, but in the meantime I think it's mildly interesting design anthrpology. (Me- no wheels for 12 years but I've recently caved in and got a Passat Wagon)

Why would anyone do this to a jag?
Whatever he was trying to achieve, he failed miserably. I can only assume that this was not the look he was actually going for, of course.

I love sites like this. I subscribe to three different auto mags. I'm a member of a local autocross club, and, indeed, spent the better part of Sunday rain-sodden and flogging my car around the track.
I like cars. I don't give a shit if they make me "cool" or "exciting". They're fun. I like speed. I like brilliant engineering. I like the feel of a machine perfectly balance on the ragged edge that leads to fast times; I also like the feel of the occasional losses of control -- although, usually, only in retrospect.
I guess it comes down, mostly, to I like driving. Cars enable driving. Therefore, I like cars.

Well said, jhammer - just substitute "boats" for "cars" and I am there.
