Sonic Youth on KCRW. A nice video of in-studio taping.
Great set. I just watched it this weekend actually. Well worth the watch/listen.

Thurston (my imaginary boyfriend) has gone from superskinny to regular skinny... it makes me feel so old!

Has anyone gotten the SY Corporate Ghost DVD yet? Just caught it the other night at a friend's house. The video for Drunken Butterfly has a nice use of sock puppets and there's some cool live footage, too. Hard to believe they've maintained so much Cool even now in their middle-age ;)

I remember the interview with Sonic Youth shown on a usually fairly banal BBC yooTV show early 90s. Thurston said nothing and looked at the floor whilst Kim did most of the talking. He did open his mouth at one point, which if I remember went something like this:
Interviewer: Do you see yourselves as a punk rock group?
Thurston (for it is he): Punk rock died with Sharon Tate's foetus.
I don't think the interviewer had any idea what he was talking about.

in the (albeit) fictionalized account of tony wilson's life in 24 Hour Party People, he comes across as someone who would know exactly what the 'sharon tate foetus' reference was all about.
and he would probably do a semiotic analysis at the same time.
