Um, I don't think Skinny Puppy and David Usher are jazz really.

While this is an AWESOME post, let me point out that they're not ALL great.

No, there's not all great, but consistency is not always an asset either.

Magnificent. When I first got into jazz, I was a little impatient with the general reverence for Blue Note -- sort of like how some MeFites feel about the similar reverence for Google. But you know what? Blue Note, like Google, really is that good. Or was, back in the day. They still put out some good stuff, but they're not at the front of the pack any more... and some of the recent covers are downright unpleasant.

On a related note, I've been totally into this Blue Note Trip - Saturday Night/Sunday Morning compilation. Kind of like the Verve Remixed only way toned down and more true to the jazz. Afro Man, The Beat Goes On, Book of Slim... it's good all around. Mmmm...

If you like these tiny jpgs of the covers, I've gotten two books full of blue note covers from amazon as gifts in the past couple years. They're even better on nice paper, in full color.

Jazz - the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than anyone listening to them does.

And thanks for popping in, Tony Wilson!

Many of them are duplicates :(

So long, Eric. So long, John Coltrane and Charles Mingus.

Great design, superb music. Can I have a Blue Note cover art book for christmas, mum?

Ice Cube & co on the top of the first page must be some kind of mistake.
