When Drain Pipes Stampede

Theo Jansen makes strange creatures that prowl beaches, powered by the wind [.avi]. "Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic matierial of this new nature." - Strandbeest. [via Tipping The Sacred Cows]
I searched for a few different permutations of strandbeest, (which is included in both previous mentions) using both the google and mefi searches, and got back nothing, nada, zip, bubkis. Someone might want to look at that.

Despite the fact that I remembered the original post(s) when reading your FPP, Blue Stone, my immediate reaction wasn't "double post!" but "I remember that, it was wicked cool!".
So hopefully there will be some folk who never saw it back in '02 and will get a chance to look at these crazy things for the first time =)
Of course, 'double post!' was my second reaction. But I try not to be mean about it, so...;)

Kind of cool stuff, after reading the post I was thinking of the guy from American Beauty who films the plastic bag in the wind but this far, far cooler.
If he hasn't taken these to Burning Man yet then he really needs to make plans to go. Then again, so do I.

odd, I simply searched for "strandbeest" and found the hits. I did need to change the scope of the search from "the last year" to "since day one".
Ah well. No biggie.

Still nifty for those of us who were busy those days and missed the FPPs, tho. The sandcastle is dead, long live the Beestie!

Amusingly, the post from Dec 6 mentions it being mentioned before.
