Sort of funny in a two in the morning drug reference way. Or not. What were we talking about?

The floating babies seemed genuinely concerned about Pop-eye's well-being.

I laughed, I cried, I scratched my head.

It was funny in the way that you could see the humor, but it wasn't enough to compel you to laugh.

excellent. although the voice for popeye is a bit off, the animation is superb.

Do you have to read the manga to figure out what the hell is going on here?

And is that Captain Bird's Eye?

joedan: i was listening for the quality of the voiceovers as well. in my spare time, i do cartoon voices, which is a bizarre and at times intimidating thing to do. finding a 'real good' popeye voice could take a studio precious time as they often have a limited amount of time to fulfill the contract. actually, i didn't think the male voices fit their characters that well, and the kid on the bike sounded like he was reading his lines direct from the script.

i'm a picky bitch, but i still laughed.

That must be the best anime I have ever seen. Makes me wonder how Olive would look in an anime movie?

it would no doubt be NSW.

I like the way that Popeye seems as puzzled as us about it all.

Hey, moonbird... I don't suppose you have any tips on how to break in to that business?

OH MY GOD. This is good (because of the contrast in cartoon stories). But if these five energies coming together was such a problem, why didn't they just sacrifice the fifth energy that was right in front of them?

jmmccorm:

For the same reason that you don't see a lot of characters do the logical thing in a show or a movie: because then, they wouldn't have an episode.

Very creative and funny.

I thought the anime spoofs were quite funny. It would have been better if if was really a Popeye cartoon done anime style, rather than having Popeye as "straight man."

Actually, when I saw that first character with the sailor hat, I thought that's what they were going to do. "Popeye, we must stop Bluto from joining the five energies and enveloping the Earth!"

Faint of Butt - Here's a link to the Cartoon Voices FAQ. You might also want to check Glenn Alterman's book on acting, which has a special section regarding voiceover work.

Poor Popeye. To be fair, I'd have no idea what the hell was going on, either. Floating babies!

So, a pretty authentic representation of American anime VAs then?
