Weenie Juke Radio: "...and that was Sleepy John Estes singing Drop Down (I Don't Feel Welcome Here) and Bo Carter, North Canton Quartet are coming up."

Automated yet they take requests. For your favorite Yazoo, Document, Biograph or Arhoolie country blues and string band recording artists, here's your Juke.

I once took a photography class from Birney Imes, while I was at MSMS with his daughter in Columbus, MS. The man is too interesting, and his book Juke Joint is worth a look.

...also, I'm from Yazoo...it's striking to see the name anywhere outside of the welcome to sign, it's a teeny town.

My bad! I got the title wrong. It's the Riverside Lounge in Shaw. Dang. I misremembered--I just looked at that book over Christmas.

You'll find, if you scroll down, more Birney Imes here in this Juke Joint Ralphmag review. And here, too. Those are some gorgeous photos. And, since we're on the topic, we'll always have Junior's Juke Joint. Or maybe not--he's a nonprofit.

I guess this is an example of a great link that vastly improves my life but doesn't get a lot of comments. Thanks y2.

In the City of Brotherly Love, we have Phillyblues.com , which has a pretty extensive links section ....for what it's worth.

And right on Marxchivist, decent link!

Magnificent thread. (Listening to a 1919 record called "In the Gloaming" as I type.) Thanks, everyone!

y2karl - thanks for this... I've got a huge collection of Delta blues, but not enough Country blues. This is great!

Weenie's site is great - I can find obscure stuff there like Kokomo Arnold that just does not seem to turn up in my average CD shop. I think I linked to it sometime in the past ....

For those visual trad music fans, the Folktstreams site offers entire documentary films about american folk traditions, including Les Blank's doc about Louisiana Creole musicians Bois Sec Ardoin and Canray Fontenot, and the late Otha Turner's Mississippi fife and drum tradition.
