Access to video editing technology and ST:TNG DVDs is, perhaps, not a good thing.

Was anyone else surprised at the age of the two guys that made it at the end?

That sounds an awful lot like Eddie Izzard in the intro, but I could be wrong.

After two attempts that both ended in WMP sputtering and dying and reminding me for the fifth time today how much I hate Microsoft, there's not much chance I'll try again to watch this through to the end. How old were they?

dreish: You don't have to use WMP even though you use Windows. This page contains links to several alternate players. Before I switched to Linux I used Media Player Classic which looks and behaves like the old style Media Player 6, but without all the crashing.
If you were using IE to attempt to view the embedded WMV file you aren't alone in crashes. Lately I've seen several people experience crashes when IE tries to run WMP in embedded mode, I don't know why. Use Mozilla and things will be better.

Hmm, well that was.... depressing.
How old were they, not 21.
Use firefox.
... ok mildly humorous, probably a riot somewhere around the eight or ninth beer

sotonohito, I tried aviplay, vlc, and xine, all no go for video (audio was ok). Installed by hand with all the codecs I could get my grubby hands on, too. Oh well, I'll give the windows box a try.

Still not that funny.

Windows media player doesn 't crash for me, it plays the sound fine and for the image I just get a bunch of colored squares.

I'm not sure of the relevance of their ages, either, but it's driving me nuts that someone mentioned that it would be a big surprise at the end of the video, and I can't find out.
All I have is the intentionally-crippled WiMP9 for MacOS X. (Like all Mac software from MS, it does a lot of no-ops, even while idle, in an attempt to make the computer look slow.) VLC doesn't do .wmv files, and though mplayer on the Linux box plays them fine, it doesn't seem to like the streaming crap on this one.
Oh well. The first 2/3 of it wasn't very good anyway.

Well, at the end of the video there are two guys with their heads superimposed over some Trek uniforms, claiming it was their video. They look like they're maybe in their 20s or 30s, definitely not teenagers.

You can bet there'll be a lot more of this. You'd be amazed what you can do with iMovie... I did a full animatic for a friend's animated show pitch with it in about an hour from scanned storyboards.
Anybody with a computer can do some really awesome stuff. If I ever had that much free time I'd be doing it too...
I chuckled at bit at this, but it wasn't that funny. Let's see some TOS versions :)

Yes, covered quite well in the latest Cringely. Definitely the next frontier after text-based personal publishing like blogs and Friday Flash Fun. Though I can't say I agree with the Cringster in forecasting Apple World Dominance since he leaves our current Redmondian Overlords completely out of the essay.
