orz. Picture a guy facing left and kneeling on the ground. The "o" is the head, the "r" symbolises the hands and body whilst the "z" is the legs. Because Hao-Ren finish last.
Just when I thought that emoticon development had ground to a halt, thrusting the internets into a post-industrial depression both literally and metaphorically, an electronic Picasso changes everything. The irony is that now that we have "orz", I no longer need to use it! :D

We're definitely not worthy of whoever came up with that one. :-)
On a similar note, albeit a bit of a tangent, what's the longest usable emoticon? I'd expect it to be a single string of characters, rather than something like an ASCII-art picture!
Yeah, this should be in the green... sorry

My favorite emoticon, based on one from here, and pretty long:
Japanese emoticons are so much more useful than American sideways ones. It's too bad that they come across as a bit of an affectation. ^_^

Very cool. Asians have such a strong pop-culture and play with language so much, it doesn't surprise me that something as simple as the 'orz' emoticon has so much diverse depth and cultural meaning behind it.
Like, 'Aaagh! She said "You're a nice guy, but..."
orz
>_< '

Play Final Fantasy XI and you'll see all kinds of nifty emoticons, including the orz. I feel so old using the :)style smilies when everyone else is using things like o.O and ^.^b and even the occasional t^.^t (my personal favorite) in conversation. And don't even get started on the detailed ones the Japanese players can make.
And armoured-ant, thanks for two pieces of art I haven't seen in about 5 years.

I've heard that the emoticon for Ed Begley Jr.'s penis is really long, but I'm not sure exactly how long, never having seen it myself.

There are still thousands of applications for sideways emotocons. For instance:
c)8-0)))))
The morbidly obese Englishman, complete with jaunty bowler.

If y'all could read Japanese, I think 2ch.net would make your heads explode...So you should probably avoid it. Like the plague.

Remember, too, that with the extended character set, there are a lot more emoticons you can make:
(*???*)
(´?`)
And, by far more popular than orz:
_|?|?
(Please let those show up right)

Oops, guess Simon! asked about the Androsynth one too many times. Do not asking it so much. It is better not to *frumple* or else there is so much problems. No more Androsynth is better...

I guess I liked the orz thing because it's also a word, and as such it could slip into normal vocabulary. "Yeah I was pretty orzed when she dumped me." "The orzing off-licence was closed."
The word sounds right for that beating the floor with frustration feeling.
Also important in the linked article is the stuff about the "Hao-Ren". I'm glad to see that the "Too nice to go out with" thing is universal.
