Blogebrity "Isn't it about time that someone talked about bloggers?" - so reads the tagline for a new magazine, "Blogebrity". The website provides the A-, B-, and C-lists. Read the acoompanying blog. Is this real, or is it satire? Some say hoax!

"One of the many things I've learned in the course of writing this blog is that it's not very polite to speculate that someone else's site is a parody (particularly if it isn't one). In this case what sparks my suspicion is that Blogebrity is participating in the Contagious Media Showdown. We clicked on the Showdown when it was announced, but the official kickoff was last night. Basically it's a contest to see who can create a site and get the most traffic without advertising. (Read the rules, it's more specific than that.) I'm pretty sure it's a joke. If there were a magazine that seriously looked at the subject they could do better than feature the two pro bloggers everyone already knows about, no?

Yes, we ARE part of the Contagious Media Showdown.
NO, it isn't a 'hoax'....any more than Metroblogging is a local media hoax. Blogebrity is launching a full blog/magazine site, complete with a variety of rich interactive content about bloggers. There will be plenty of value/interest (beyond sheer ego) for those interested in bloggers and blogging.
Why are you so down on the idea of engaging in a conversation with the very community that you and Metroblogging are trying to profit from? We felt there was a great opportunity to use the Contagious Media platform to start a large discussion with bloggers about their own pursuits, passions, and blog experiences.
The only thing that changed, from one day ago, is that you discovered we're NOT a commercial outfit, trying to make $$$ exploiting bloggers as an advertising platform. Instead, we're just trying to use a high-profile opportunity to start a conversation, for the good of the community at large.
Perhaps we'd all be better off with videos of us crying over a bowl of Apple Jacks.

Blogebrity should refer to bloggers who used to blog drunk but are now trying sobreity, at least that's what it looked like to me.

Not bad. However, maybe we should settle for "The Bl0g L33t?" I realize that l33tsp34k is passe, but this allows famous bloggers to have a connection to their roots, thus "keeping it real."
