The Anti-Hit List, by John Sakamoto, continues to unearth music from the depths of the net and through rare releases. It can be found in the pages of the Toronto Star and is now available in convenient podcast form. Note: previous death and rebirth of the site.

Sakamoto was fantastic in his discoveries a few years ago. I have to agree with jonmc, however, that mash-ups do not a great discovery make. Or maybe I simply don't get mash-ups?

Sorry I snapped at you, jonmc. I forgot that his old Eye archives weren't at the Star. But that link does point to reissues by Lou Reed and John Simon, Lou Reed, Travis Biggs, Toy Love, ie, a whole range of stuff beyond Sakamoto's interest in Canadian indie rock and rad mash-ups. Your cheap shot seemed totally out of touch.

And "good" mash-ups, like cover versions, are revolting to some but delightful to others. Count me in the latter camp.

I didn't think I would have to qualify it, but of course any top ten list that has been around for nine years isn't going to be of use to people who already know everything about music.
