I won but it didn't acknowledge it. Pah!
You can only win going across (left-to-right or right-to-left), not up-and-down. It's a lot tougher that way.

This is a squared-up relative of Hex, a great game with a rich literature and culture. The wiki page has a wealth of good links - make sure you play with the "pie rule". And check out Six if you enjoy this sort of thing and want a strong AI opponent.

The name of this particular Hex relative is Bridg-it, or Gale.

I won, but only because I copied the computer's strategy after the first couple of tries: Middle-left, Middle-right, Middle-middle.

It's clever. It has a very 囲碁 like feel. (Unicode is fun!) But much quicker.
