I'm glad someone more ambitious than me came up with the "Gold Digger"/"George Bush..." remix idea. Thank you, Lazyweb.
Oh yeah, you might wanna hit the archive.org link first. I'm pretty sure Brewster Kahle's got deeper pockets for bandwidth than whoever runs fwmj.com.

I have always been a fan of the "mashups." Is that what the kids are calling it these days? But . This. Is. Fing. Incredible. Just thinking about all the work culling the internet, looking for samples of Kanye's voice, saying "roof" or whatever. It is awe inspiring. I just emailed it to all my whitebread, formerly dubya-loving friends.

It's not so much a mash-up, as a straight "beat" jack.
Still, one of the best things about hip-hop is the 'mixtape" culture. Jack someone's beat, say what you want, and put it out there. Eventually, someone is going to reference what you said, and it transcends into a vast web of reference and allusion. If you know where to look, you can find all sorts of shit like this.

Coral Cache versions of all of the above:
* Talib Kweli
* De La Soul
* Oh No
* J-Zone
* Kanye
* Kanye (alternate)
* Immortal Technique & Mos Def
Really, people should remember to do this for any heavy content

They've released the song to everyone to host as they please. Mirror. Mirror.
If anyone else is interested, I couldn't find the lyrics so I transcribed them. (self link of course)

Thanks for that, ?!. I posted the song to an LJ community and was met with harassment by a user who wasn't aware the words weren't from the original Kanye song--your website came in handy.

I'm puzzled. De La Soul and Talib Kwali are obscure? (e.g. shit I've never heard?) And Phife Dawg and Ali Shaheed Mohammad are from Tribe Called Quest. Ah well. Good music, in any case, and there are some there that aren't as well known.

Tuwa I think the point is they are not in 'Mainstream POP', at least De La not as much anymore.
And um, I might not be a Kanye expert, ok I'm not, but it sounds more like a different gentleman named 'KO' doing most of the verses. It doesn't sound like a cut up of Kanye at all...

It isn't Kanye rapping (Kanye made the beat, it's on his new album), it's the Legendary Knock Out Boyz, Big Mon and Damien.
I'm puzzled. De La Soul and Talib Kwali are obscure? (e.g. shit I've never heard?)
Why are you puzzled? Talib Kweli is a guest on a Zion I track, and Dave from De La Soul is only on the hook on the Headcrack track. They're two out of hundreds of tracks, most of which I've never seen before.

Lot of stuff I've never heard before, great post.
I've always liked Mos Def but damn, that Tower track is killer. I'd only heard him mention the subject on "Close Edge" but that was relatively microscopic compared to this.

i happened to be flipping through channels at the moment, had no idea who kanye was at that time (i'm not a great listener of any contemporary music), but stopped to comment to the significant-other that mike myers was on tv - when the line came out. i consider myself supremely lucky to have caught it and believe it to be a true moment of television zen. all the planets had aligned and someone seemed to be speaking out to the universe. i've heard the song and think it's a real piece of art. it's getting regular play here.
