Hahah, that's crazy, apparently it's not 'supposed' to spread this quickly, and GM are trying to quarantine people. Bizarre.

Always remember... when you play World of Warcraft with someone, you are also playing with every other person that person has ever played World of Warcraft with.
So, what I'm saying is... always wear a condom when playing World of Warcraft.

Hahaha. This is brilliant. Their only problem is that the disease is more like Smallpox or the Plague and not HIV. But other than that...

I read about this on Friday, and I think it's awsome! (Sadly there has not been an outbreak on my server, Lightning's Blade) It looks like it was unintended, though, which is disappointing, because this would be a really cool world event, that could lead up quests to strive for a cure. And whichever side found the cure first (Alliance or Horde) would be better off.

Heard about this from a friend who plays, sounded awesome. Apparently quite a few people are having fun with it - bringing into the always jam-packed auction house in Ironforge until the floor is covered with the corpses of low level characters.
I've also heard (from a less reliable source) that on one server a few people actually stood guard over the Ironforge exits bouncing it back and forth so that nobody could get in or out of the city without getting hit by it. Hilarious if true.

The fools need but to steep the lot of players in a bath of limes and the blood of a virgin whale. That be the normal cure for plague and pox on my ships!
In truth, that is right cool. If they didn't do it on purpose, I hope the wobbly-kneed dogs at least roll with it and have the cure in-game, instead of just patching it out.

I assume they're patching it out. A similar situation happened during beta: There was a boss that cast a spell called "Living Bomb" on characters, that made them explode after a certain amount of time and hurt the people around them. There was a situation where a character (a Hunter or Warlock) would have Living Bomb cast on their pet, and they would dismiss the pet before it blew. When the pet was called again, usually in a largely populated area, the Living Bomb would explode, and bring much hilarity. They changed the spell so that is was dispelled if you left the zone in which it was cast, though, so players can't do that anymore. I assume they'll do the same thing to the plague spell.

I'm still playing the browser-based zombie survival game, Urban Dead which someone recommended here last month. No plagues there.
A lot of Metafilter readers tried it and the servers were slowed for days but they moved the game to a new server two weeks ago and things are much better.
There are now about 25,000 active players which pales in comparison to the numbers playing World of Warcraft. I'd be curious to find out who's still playing Urban Dead.

I'm still in Urban Dead. It's evolved into something interesting -- there are various human factions and groups, one group of humans has organized and annexed a suburb, and is killing non-members... a Zombie horde from the Something Awful forums called The Many is shambling around destroying safehouses, and a rag tag group of Penny Arcade regulars is trying to defend a mall against them.

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
MMORP's are excellent resources in studying human behavior, as they're really the only truly closed systems.
A good example are the market forces inside of everquest that follow well established economic principles.
Hopefully they create an NPC character class who collect the dead piling up in the street and the all the rich players start isolating themselves inside of remote châteaus.

This plague is awesome. Hardly counts as a plague, though. It infects your character for 3-4 seconds, deals a good amount of damage, and spreads to basically everyone nearby.
That's what makes putting it in IF fun. Soo many people, infect, then get reinfected. Blood squirting everywhere.
Chaos.

I was in Ironforge on Uther on Saturday when this hit for the first time. I think it was the first time -- people were running around like crazy and had no idea what was going on. I wasn't killed immediately, fortunately. I just stood in a corner and watched the chaos. People had a theory that if you went PVP it wouldn't affect you. Then other people had a theory that the whole thing was a Horde plot and as soon as everybody went PVP a bunch of Horde were going to swoop in and kill everyone.
I logged out and logged in a few hours later, figuring it would be over. It was still going on, and the ground was basically covered in dead bodies. It was pretty amusing. The lag is always horrible in Ironforge, so I'm sure a lot of people logged in and found themselves dead before they could move. That would probably have been less amusing.

Man, just have to say, with a 5? priest on Dalaran I would have loved to see this come around our server just to experience it. No--really, even though I love the game and this is the first MMORPGOMWGWTFBBQ I've played and it's really wonderfully planned out -- it is starting to get a tad stale now and then. An event like this where my class is in a more rare position to help (Cure Disease, Flash Heals, etc), this would have made a rockin' Saturday night.

I'm in Urban Dead as well, there's a pretty large group of Monkeyfilterites playing, we have a board and a chat and a super-nifty-keen editable barricades map. So that's really fun. We've been protecting Giddings Mall in Pitneybank, where a lot of the PA people are holed up, only we're on the down-low as per the wiki (which was basically cribbed from our popular wiki, damnit!) Though we've gone roadtripping now, and are in a variety of other interesting places.
I'm playing some alts too, though I like my main the best, since it's in a group.
