Russian man wants “The Simpsons” banned

A Russian lawyer wants “The Simpsons” banned from his country for promoting "drugs, violence and homosexuality."
I thought that this was just an American problem... some parents don't pay attention to what their kids are watching. Just give them a remote, and if they see something "objectionable" then it's the fault of the t.v. station, the media, ANYTHING but the parents.

See, there should be limits. From the tiny linked text I can only assume watching the Simpsons turned the guy's nine-year-old son into a major Moscow homicidal gay drug-lord.

His ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to his newsletter.
It's funny though, given the constitution of the Supreme Court these days, he might have better luck with his case over here.

Granting the drugs and violence angle for purposes of discussion, is homosexuality illegal in Russia? And if not, then why would a court even hear a case that included the charge of "promoting" it?

The show should be banned. Not because it causes bad behavior, but because it's needed to be put to sleep for about 6 years.

I wasn't sure it existed so I checked Babelfish. The Russian word for "parody" is apparently "пародийность".

I have this bad habit of combining unrelated posts, so for a while I was very confused that this Russian thought that the Simpsons had somehow launched the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus.

I don't understand why they don't end The Simpsons.. it is going downhill fast.

It has been going downhill for at least the last five years...and even with that, it's still better than 90% of what passes for sitcoms these days. Which is why they don't end it, nor should they.

They don't cancel it because people watch it - still pretty highly rated, apparently (for Fox). This means ad money, so until the ad money dries up, we will have more Simpsons.
