An Honest Politician?

An Honest Politician? At a time when Washington politicians seem more corruptible than ever (hard to believe), it is refreshing to come across a candidate for office who seems actually focused on doing the right thing and addressing issues that are not necessarily political or popular. See Janet Reilly's website. Check out her very cool "Carbon Neutral" pledge to negate the impact of her campaign on global warming and her series of discussions and oral histories about racism. In light of the recent passings of Coretta Scott King & Rosa Parks, it seems more important than ever to have our leaders out in front talking about issues of race in America. Anybody else out there find any cool political websites? Do you believe we can take politics back from the self-serving politicians?

Not really sure that Clint Reilly's post-zillionaire new wife is really to be regarded as the embodiment of clean politics.

Ooo, that is an attractive website for a politician. Is there not a rule that politician websites must look like poo?

Wow...no waving flags, flying eagles, or 9-11 memorials.
She's doomed.

An Honest Politician?

Well, do you really think her website is really the best place to have this question answered?

I thought an honest politician was one that stays bought.

And something about this post seems very fishy to me.

To me as well, but I cannot put my finger on it.

Well, for one thing, it reads like a plug for this campaign.

Yeah, if we are plugging campaigns on MeFi now, let me know. 'Cause I have a WHOLE LIST!

Alex Laskey is working for Janet O'Reilly's campaign.

Alex Laskey is one of the subjects featured in the only other post by tallbuildings.

tallbuildings, this smells like a second self-link by someone named Alex Laskey. Is it?

Janet Reilly, that is, not O'Reilly.

This Alex Laskey character keeps popping up.

Please contact Alex Laskey or Adele Diffley at HQ 415-391-4088 if you'd like to host Janet at your home.

...and from Tallbuilding's previous post.

Finally, a politician willing to say that racism is bad, and to come out in favor of strong communities and better schools! Politics be damned! Who is this shining beacon of change?

Alex Laskey, guerrilla marketer?
posted by mr_crash_davis at 12:11 PM on February 9, 2006

The sad thing is, this "guerilla marketing" is so ham-fistedly transparent.

Do you believe we can take politics back from the self-serving politicians?

Yes, real Metafilter posts sound just like this.

Marketing Lesson #1, Mr. Laskey:

Don't make your clients look bad by lying on their behalf on the internet.

Marketing Lesson #2:

Don't headline your misrepresentation with "An Honest Politician." The irony is just too sweet.

He should have upped his postcount to around 100 or so before trying this, at the very least.

The connection between the "Alex Laskey" in New York who made the guerrilla marketing quote and the Alex Laskey of Assisting Living/Janet Reilly is pretty tentative, but is strengthened by the fact that the domain swingstate.net is registered to Alex Laskey in New York, and links to both Assisting Living and Janet Reilly's campaign. It also matches the bio of Alex Laskey from the Campaign for a National Majority site, which is referenced in the SF gate article.

finding a copywriter that understands [more inside] has gotten more and more difficult these days. i propose banning due to profligate usage of rhetorical questions.
