When you pause the game, it shows a two minute completely unskippable movie of Penn & Teller eating pizza in silence, and then you regain control.

I never cease to be amazed how much stuff shows up first in the SA Forums and then weeks or months later makes its way out into the blogs.

Penn and Teller are annoying, it's true, but their Bullshit series is quite excellent.

I would say the opposite is true; their magic act is quite entertaining, but the TV show has blown its promise of a sceptical look at sacred cows in favor of providing a media outlet for the Cato Institute.

I have to say that the more closely you look at Bullshit!, the more you come to recognize the frankly obvious formula behind it, and the less you end up liking it.

I watched the first season of Bullshit, and the Cato stuff seemed to get a bit heaver toward the end of the run. I like Penn, but am not quite the rabid Libertarian he is. I respect his efforts to share what he feels passionate about, but was hoping for more from the show.

I wish I'd had access to this game when I was 13. I'd just discovered them through one of their books and was absolutely devoted. Sadly, I'm not quite as interested now.

I had to look up the Cato Institute (how embarrassing), but I wonder if you could point to some discussion of the connections you refer to, and what they might signify.

No, tlogmer, I don't think that comment was tongue-in-cheek. Bullshit most definitely has a libertarian bent, both in the "government should stay out of my life" sense and the "government can't do anything right so why should we pay taxes" sense. I like the former a lot better than the latter, but Penn is a pretty down-the-line libertarian, so his position most certainly overlaps with the Cato position.

People sort of miss that because they focus on the rhetoric and the very pro-science position the show takes, along with the antics of Penn and Teller. It's certainly there, though.

I like the show, but more for the takedowns of the pseudo-science and New Agey crap. I am less thrilled with Penn's kind of oversimplified loud thoughts on stuff like foreign policy.

Penn does not merely overlap with the Cato institute, he is a fellow there. I agree with the Cato institute on some things, such as the idea that government should stay out of people's lives, but not others such as the idea that government regulation of business is inherently bad. If you look closely you will see that a lot of the experts who present the anti-bullshit side of things are from the Cato institute.

How about an eight-hour search for redemption? Penn & Teller's Sega CD game, Smoke And Mirrors, had a mini-game called "Desert Bus." The object of Desert Bus is to drive a bus from Tuscon to Las Vegas. Your bus doesn't go over 45 mph. There is no scenery or obstacles, just an empty desert road. Your bus also veers slightly to the right, so you can't put something on the accelerate button and go live your life. The trip takes roughly eight hours. If you get to Vegas, you score one point.
