Bike to Work Week Grants AvailableI wonder how these two ideas could be combined for a winning essay?
The League of American Bicyclists and Shimano are offering grants to help communities with Bike to Work Week in 2006. To apply, send us 200-word essays on who, what, where and how the Bike to Work program will make a difference in your community. This year, special consideration will be given to communities that are launching Bike to Work or Bicycle Friendly Community campaigns. The deadline to apply for the grants is April 3 and the winners will be announced on April 5. The grants range from $1,000 to $1,500 each, and grant applications should be emailed to Sarah Stiles at sarah@bikeleague.org.

How come attractive people never do the nude stuff?
That's like asking "Why don't you ever see any real singing talent on 'American Idol'?"
I've seen some very attractive women riding Critical Tits, however.

From the site's photography policy:
posted by gambit at 3:21 PM on March 13, 2006
A general-purpose press/spectator photography policy should:So, I dig on that policy and I think it makes sense, here's my thing though... they're riding bikes... naked... on public streets. Regardless of what their policy says, do they really think that they can expect to enforce it or that they even have the right to?This policy is intended to curtail any inconsiderate photography which might otherwise take place. We wish to create a safe and supportive environment for all riders.
- prohibit close-ups
- prohibit photos taken when people aren't on their bikes/skates/transport
- prohibit photos before/after the street ride (except in a designated photo area)
All photographers present at the ride must abide by this policy. Those who do not will be asked to leave. This includes any riders or press who take photos.
To ensure that this policy is clear to all present, it will appear on leaflets distributed at the event.
We welcome photography during the ride, but there are some restrictions:
- No photos are permitted before or after the street ride except in a designated photo area (where consenting riders can go to be photographed).
- During the street ride, no closeup photos of people are allowed without the person's written consent.
- During the street ride, no photos of participants when they aren't riding/skating (except with the person's written consent).
- Riders and supporters are actively encouraged to enforce these policies. Thank you!

IANANC, but come on. Sure, there's gonna be some people at any event that don't fit your standards of beauty, and at a nude event they aren't going to be wearing clothes to protect your poor, tender eyes, but:
a) Eh? I see plenty of very do-able people in those pictures. Maybe you have freakishly narrow limits, or maybe you just wanted to snark at the weird hippy cycle-freaks. Or maybe you're under the control of a brain parasite!!
a) Cycling makes you thin(ner) and fit(ter) and generally healthier, and depending on where you are and just how often you ride naked, more tanned. Yeah. Cyclists do it in all weathers, baby!

For a second I thought it said "from Sunday 12 March and Saturday 10 June 2006..." I mean, I commute every day, but I don't think I can [PUN ALERT] swing that.
Also, fandango_matt, your euphemism rhymes wonderfully, but I prefer to refer to it as critical batch.

You'd be supprised how many people you think of as attractive don't look so with their clothes off.

We like to think this... but I met folks in the movie business that you hoped it was true... then you saw 'em nekkid and hot DAMN they looked even better. Damn-it.
Mosly it's humans only look good doing certain things - certain motions - naked. It's a bit comical seeing a guys non-erect winkle jiggle on a trampoline for instance. Even if he is Viggo Mortensen.

Naked riding can't possibly be comfortable. You'll be able to tell who partook on the next day by spotting the people with very sore asses... and possibly higher-pitched voices than before.

From the website:
We face automobile traffic with our naked bodies as the best way of defending our dignity and exposing the unique dangers faced by cyclists and pedestrians as well as the negative consequences we all face due to dependence on oil, and other forms of non-renewable energy.
The BEST way? .................. ?!
It may be the best way to meet and hook up with fellow hippie-cycle freaks, however.

Who uses a Brooks saddle these days? Especially to be broken in? My god man, are you into S&M? That's the only reason I can think of to break in a Brooks saddle in the nude. Instead I would rather go for one of these.

I wish this was in Jacksonville, I'd so do it.
But man, some of you people really have issues with other people being naked. You dont like our bodies, dont look. You'd think these sort of hangups would have gone away by now. Or people would have learned to stop judging people on their bodies. I mean, really....

Jeez, that Spider saddle looks uncomfortable. I have Brooks saddles on a couple of bikes. They are like hammocks, gently cradling my sensitive parts.
