This post wouldn't be nearly as good if it were made by someone whose nickname wasn't PenguinBukkake.

I think it's interesting how the article should be immediately followed by near-english meaningless spam commentary. The Asian culture is so inscruitable!

Got to second "School of the Holy Beast" - best whipping with roses scene ever. And the star (Yumi Takagawa) is gorgeous. This was her debut performance, and I don't think she if ever did nudity onscreen again. Er, if you care about that sort of thing.

Happily, I was able to find Holy Beast on Netflix, but not Satanico Pandemonium. :(

Related essay from Criterionco.com: Branded to Kill
"Flipping around the channels of late-night TV in my Tokyo apartment in 1984 I came across what seemed like a B movie from the ’60s. The studio: Nikkatsu. The star: Joe Shishido. The director: Seijun Suzuki. I was not at all prepared for what I was about to see, and I remember spending much of the following hour or so riveted to the screen with my mouth open. That night changed my life and set me on a journey to explore the darker side of a culture known predominantly for its classical beauty."

I watched Female Yakuza Tale [NSFW trailer] last week. Incredible cinematography, set design, and choreography, but it's hard to get past all the raping and torturing.

Espy, that 'trailer' showed me everything I could stand in that movie. Flushing that out into a full-blown movie sounds arduous, and watching that film, 'good for acquired tastes'.
Great historical value, though.
The art was pretty cool.

For those that care about this sort of thing: Santanico Pandemonium was the name of Salma Hayek's character in From Dusk Till Dawn.
i know that Rodriguez/ Tarantino are a nerds for B-movie cinema, but it is nice to see the origins of this stuff every once in a while.
