Bullets Through Objects in Slow Motion

One minute long video of bullets passing through objects in super slow motion. The best part is, from the looks of it, some of these objects totally needed shooting. (link goes to embedded wmv)

I wanted to see this alot bigger and not in wmv. Like let me download a 200 MB mpg version. Which is, to say, I enjoyed this.

Here [Warning: risque girlie ad], you don't just see the can shot and then move on. It tries to get back up again... can't make it... falls down in a pool of its own froth and dies with rivulets of soda leaking from it.

This is great. I liked the egg, water bottle, and banana best, in no particular order. And the water balloon was good, too. I wonder how much one of those high speed cameras costs? More of this sort of thing here, but none of the links appears to give any price info.

According to gizmodo, you can get the 1 million frame-per-second camera for only $200,000 dollars. Just the thing to buy when I get the check from forwarding all that Email for Bill Gates.

We have a couple of high speed cameras in my lab; they'll capture a megapixel at about 1 kHz. We can use binning to get up to almost 100 kHz, but that takes a LOT of light. Cost is in the mid five figures apiece.

It would have been even more awesome if for one of the shots (heh), a little Mario would appear and jump on the bullet (bill), knocking it to the ground, thus saving the banana or snackfood for getting all JFK-ed.

Even more thrilling -- revisit the site and look at the video of the vehicle running the a light and going straight through several lanes of busy cross traffic.

Makes the bullet videos look easy.

I wonder if the red-light-runner even noticed the near-death experience everyone in that intersection had as s/he passed through it.

It's a shame the water bottle wasn't properly centered. Or maybe that would've made it less interesting.

It's interesting that the two cans shot lost most of their liquid out of the side first hit by the bullet, even though the time between the bullets entry on the left and exit on the right was miniscule.

A function of gas expansion to be sure, but why doesnt the stuff leak more equally out of both sides.

Thoughts, meta-physicists?

Howzabout this: the bullet brings a whole lotta air into the can with it. And there's only the one exit at the time.
