I'm sorry but I'm missing the point of visiting a Western style theme park in Egypt. Aren't there enough Western style theme parks in The West?
I've spent a lot of time in Egypt, try to visit Cairo every Christmas in fact, and variable prices is normal. He's supposed to haggle. Sure he got ripped off. But the plus side is that he gave the ticket clerk a nice tip. And you gotta look on the bright side - he's lucky they didn't charge him 100 pounds 'cause it sounds like he would have paid without protesting.

One wouldn't expect to see many people there, but the place looks absolutely deserted and out of business. Who would ever climb into any of these rides? I'm guessing the ticket vendor is just a random guy who saw this group of tourists and decided to have a little fun with them.
Also, these pictures look like they were taken with a hidden camera or something.
Great post.

I was thinking the same thing. That place would be a great urban exploration site, if it wasn't actually open.

That flying house is terrifying. I mean, the notion of riding on it is a little scary, but the house itself just...bothers me.

Whoa, looks like I just left Roller Coaster Tycoon running in a window, and completely forgot about it.

There, that should fix it. Man, with these new computers, you just don't notice stuff running in the background.

Why go all the way to Egypt when the same experience is available in Blackpool?

this reminds me of all the satellite parks in Orlando, Florida, that my parents took me to in the 80s (sticker price at Walt Disney World). I remember more from that tour than from the Disney park itself.

On page 4 the poster writes that the stills were taken from a video, hence the quality and the fuzzy round filter around the edges of some of the pictures.
And there are more pictures on page 4.

If by worst you mean best. I can think of no amusement park I would want to go to more than this place. Awesome!!

Do you mean it doesn't work or it's not PC? It works for me. I put it there because while searching to make sure it wasn't a double I saw that it had been digged which caused it to fall over.

Jack_mo: Blackpool isn't nearly that bad. Most of the rides in Blackpool were running when I was there, a couple years ago. (Blackpool fact: Pepsi Max is the only coaster I ever refused to try a second time.)

This is an example of trying to do a specific kind of tourism in the wrong place. I like to do beer tourism -- find wonderful or at least character-filled little microbreweries and beer bars in all the places I visit throughout the world. It's a thing I do, like the thing these amusement park people do.
But I would never think to try beer tourism in Egypt....

gurple, that's a shame. (c'mon, man, a whole history of beer tour!)
And I'm thinking more of Skegness than Blackpool. Blackpool's never let me down before, whereas Skeg...it's a whole different universe.
And I swear they have that scary-ass Flying House ride there too.

Oh, I'm sure it's not - I haven't been there since the mid-80s, though, when parts of it honestly weren't that far off the Egyptian place.

I'm not convinced, jack_mo. Whenever I'm there, the whole of the population of Scotland seems to be there as well. Ergo you must have been there on at least one of those occasions.

Steady on, I used to hang at the Blackpool Mecca in the early 70's, it was ace. I only went to the amusement park and silly golf to pick up birds.

I bet it was! Did you have a neat 'tache and a ready supply of talc? And, more importantly, did you know Ian Levine? What a fucking hero that man is (for the HiNRG and Heaven, not to mention his part in the hilarious newies/oldies Northern rift. Take That, not so much.)

Ah, I've only lived here ten years. I'm from the Wirral originally. Which doesn't exactly put me in a strong position to mock Blackpool for being a bit shit, really. Two words: New Brighton.

Those first pictures make it seem more like a concentration camp than a theme park....
Anyway, is it just me or is there no place more melancholy than a dilapidated theme park? How many ghosts must be sitting in the seats of those non-functional rides?

Yes, those mysterious Orientals certainly have no need for anything as Western as amusement rides. Why, they have their hashish and whirling dervishes to keep themselves amused. My goodness.

(btw, the Gyppos actually have a few palatable beers, but they are not always easy to find, except in Alexandria. I quite like Saqqara, if only for the coolo pyramid logo)
