MacBook Overclocked, MacBook dead.

MacBook Overclocked, MacBook dead. The MacBook can not be overclocked... well can be but could not survive after running 20 minutes at 2586.580000 MHz.
This post was deleted for the following reason: not much to go on really
You can now say that you've made a shitty mac post on Metafilter, which is the initiation for the least threatening street gang ever.

I have the same respect for overclockers as I do for riced Kia's, but having said that, check out the thermal paste debacle.
MacNN forum w/ pix. My favorite quote is "OMG, it's a CPU not a sandwich!"
Having said that it's debatable that thermal paste alone is the solution for general MacBook heat issues. Certainly a thin layer of paste is better than a glop of that stuff, see here , also a MacNN forum post.
There's also an ArsTechnica post here which suggests that the core MacBook heating issue is that it was designed for quiet operation as opposed to cool operation. Disable/remove the HEAT sensor, all fans run high, and you get a cool yet louder Macbook.

I thought it was interesting... with all the hype about Mac switching to Intel this is the first I've come across about overclocking a new Intel Mac. I figured at least it would start up some good Apple bashing. Sheesh... my bad.

As a pathetic Apple fanboy, I have to say... this post sucks.
No pics, no video, hell, I would have been happy with just hearing the sound of a MacBook flaming out.

I wasn't trying to be snarky, if there's some meat to it let us know, but your link was a one paragraph forum post that really didn't say a whole lot about what they did or did not do to verify it.
If you have more about it post a follow up link in this thread?

I'll add to the weak post pile on. You might have at least added this bit of info from the same site while you were at it. Don't run your MacBook without batteries.

I don't this anyone using the Mac tech manual would take that oozing glob of thermal grease as literal, would they? THere's enough on there to ooze over the sides of the processor. SHIRELY!

tomplus2 - if you check out cavalier's link, yeah, there's text in the service manual explaining that "yeah, for real, this much thermal paste." Also, other people have taken pictures of their disassembled laptops and the paste is just gooped onto the chip.

I hear MacBook's break if you hit them with a hammer and that they don't like going swimming.
