Multiplayer Asteroids

FLASH GAME FOR YOUR FRIDAY: Multiplayer Asteroids The name, Multiplayer Asteroids (or is it Asteroids Multiplayer?) is a bit of a misnomer since the asteroids did not actually make it into this version of the game. Instead, each player (up to 16 in a room) pilots a ship in an all-out deathmatch, melee style, with the objective being to rack up more kills than deaths. link and description via jayisgames
Not much fun for me. I click on start, I get a static screen full of ships and shots but nothing moving. Eventually, it tells me that I've died and need to respawn.

Repeated, almost instant death.... which means I'm defeating the insurgency, right?

Fun idea, but way too many players in one room...

Wow. Pretty frantic, but ultimately pointless. I mena you have X number of points and you basically just get pounded on randomly untilly ou die.

Reminds me of the "old" days (circa 1993) and trying to play XPilot^.

Years ago, I worked up a design for a multi-sector SubSpace, where each sector was a different server, connected by "wormholes" -- actually, it was more of a cross between SubSpace and TradeWars^ (ya, the old BBS game). Woulda, coulda, shoulda been bad-ass...

Xpilot was good, but Netrek was the best online game ever.

i made it to the top of the listing by stalking the edes of the screen. The center is pure death.

Subspace is great, and its open-sourced corpse still lives!. Good times.
Asteroids is stalled, won't load. Any solution?

God, Subspace was awesome--lost hours and hours a week to it. I used to love that ship with the bouncing bombs.

Wow, someone else who knows Subspace / Silent Death. In highschool, that game seriously ate several hundred hours of my time over the span of a few months.
For those of you willing to accept singleplayer, there's always Transcendence, which has a few things in common with Silent Death and Nethack.

absalom is right. "Asteroids" with multiple players but without asteroids is Spacewar.
