Steak and Cheese

AOL Mistakenly Releases User Search Histories. The research department at AOL has published, and quickly unpublished, the search history of 500,000 of its members. User 17556639 is evidently very interested in 'how to kill your wife','killed people','dead pictures', and 'steak and cheese'. More unfiltered search analysis here.
This post was deleted for the following reason: not a mistake, not a leak, also a double
Sorry, looks like this got duped while I was writing it. Delete away.

According to this, AOL didn't mistakenly release these; they did so intentionally.
This was not a leak - it was intentional. In their desperation to gain recognition from the research community, AOL decided they would compromise their integrity to provide a data set that might become often-cited in research papers: "Please reference the following publication when using this collection..." is the message before the download.posted by rajbot at 8:59 AM on August 7, 2006
Obviously one of the search terms missing from the data set is "AOL search History research in:metafilter.com".

You know what sucks more than this double post? Listening to librarians peck apart a poor OCLC sales presentation, that's what.
