Line Rider. It is all downhill.
fun, but I appear to be developing my sadistic streak.

Just once, I wish I could fall off a real sled and just keep falling and falling and falling... I'd blink a lot, too.
Cool post.

How come when he falls off the sled, and the the sled comes back and runs over him, nothing happens?

Line Rider is at once a model of every man, and also an individual for whom we should hold great regard. His is a fate drawn on a blank slate, sure in path but difficult in execution. His path is frought with difficult and sometimes impossible obstacles which all end, ultimately, in certain death.
Yet, alone, he faces these tasks head on without complaint or objection. He merely blinks at such fatally dire consequences as pixel-crushing jump, staggering boredom (should he stall on course) and infinite chasm. Only by the tack of his scarf do we know his trajectory in the chalk white matrix.
God speed, Line Rider.
Think of his three pixel kids sitting at home, and his wife, who knit him the scarf.

All for our entertainment. You callous bastards.

Not if you build him a gentle up slope on the far end of your line.

Pretty neat diversion, now just add something to make him know how to change directions when the hill changes [i kept trying to make slalom courses but he'd just slide down backwards or worse - not even hit the line :(] and give me an eraser tool and i think this might just rival tetris.
Also: distance and/or point counter will up the overall game-ness of it.

An eraser, line smoothing, undo, and some shape tools would make a complete toy.
Alternately, a speedometer, odometer, and a contextually generated pit full of crocodiles would make a heck of a game.
I think I'd rather have the toy, but the game's cool, too.

It's nice to get a graphic yet cheery representation of exactly how little I know about physics.
I agree that an erase tool would be nice, but I like the open endedness of it otherwise.

Meatbomb, please let us not bring religion into this.
There is no "gentle upslope" at the end of the line. Alas, that is not the noble destiny of Line Rider. Line Rider is put on that line to ride, blink, sport a handsome scraf knitted by Mrs. Rider and..fall off the edge forever and ever.
(Which is a hell of a lot better then just sitting there on a flat slope blinking one's way into eternity.)

This just emphasizes how badly I draw 'straight' lines with a mouse. However, putting a loop at the end is cool.

I like how the sled deforms after particularly grotesque crashes. It's a nice touch.
It's still in Beta, so hopefully this ~fsk guy will add an eraser tool later, along with a yeti that rushes out on the course to eat the sledder.

There's definitely a kind of sadness here (mainly in how badly my line rider's rides have been going). What kind of variations have you been able to add? How do you use the ceiling line in interesting ways?

The key to good loops is leaving a little gap at the bottom so that the broken sled and mangled rider have some path to slide out...

I just spent twenty minutes getting the little rider going pretty far and fast on the sled and added a big jump. He does a flip in the air but because I can't erase I ended up with a broken web of lines that are an effective rider catcher. effective in that he doesn't fall forever. It'd be nice to have an eraser as mentioned before.

I think it might be possible to share courses. If you look for a file on your computer with a path like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\996K9B59\ic1.deviantart.com\fs12\f\2006\266\6\f\engin2_16devart.swf\undefined.sol
And replace it with this file you might be able to load my saved courses. Anyone want to try it?

astro38, it does work. The path isn't exactly right but if you search your application data folder for ic1.deviantart.com you can find where to put the file.

I am still loopless. I've decided that the only fun thing to do at home with my trackpad is either launch him into space immediately, or crash him into a wall. Otherwise, I just don't have the coordination. At work I'm doing a bit better with the mouse, but still unable to get him to loop!
