Ricky Gervais reads the Bible GoogleVideo
"He made the Earth and Heaven in the dark. I would've used a light."
Gervais is on his very own level.

This is from his Animals stand-up show which I've had on DVD for at least a year. But it looks like it was only released in the UK and Australia.
It's not bad. It's no "The Office", but he does seem to have a real (if basic) interest in animals and evolution. If you've listened to the podcasts, you'll know what to expect (minus Karl Pilkington).
There's also Politics, which I haven't seen.

I found it funny, but even slower than the holly bibble..
Also, he mumbles, which makes it even harder for an American to understand English. The transcript might well have been funnier.

Meh, he's not much cop at stand-up, really.
Eddie Izzard's bit about Genesis is funnier, I think. Couldn't find any video, but here's a transcript of the whole 'Glorious' show.

Sorry, that made me laugh. Obviously you mean harder to understand his accent, but still.

Dang, I so want to see this, but I keep getting this instead:
"We're sorry, but this video may not be available.
Try refreshing the page to see this video.
To see more videos visit our home page"
Refreshing the page does nothing for me.

I am a huge fan of Gervais and Izzard - I wouldn't compare them.

If I recall correctly, this (the Animals tour) was his first attempt at stand up, and I think he does a fairly good job considering, though I don't think he really engages the audience. This brand of humour seems to work better in the sitcom format, IMHO, though I'm not a member of the cult of Gervais.

I had never seen Gervais before. He's not bad, though I thought the digression into French/Swiss stuff was a bit too long; kind of ruined the focus of the bit.

Yeah, very different styles. Animals is definately his best stand-up show - I actually enjoyed it more than The Office. The bit about dolphin-blowhole-shagging had me in stitches. Go forth and torrent, Merkins. You might need to Google the "Rick Waller" references, though.
I also enjoyed the recent Bill Bailey stuff: 1 2 3 4 5 6

blag you are so right about Bill Bailey. I thought about putting together an FPP of UK comedy moments from Youtube (Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Coupling, Gervais, Black Books, Spaced) but got distracted by a video of kittens falling over. Or something.
