Try the pie. Forget that other American ritual today, it's time to enjoy the ultimate patriotic treat. No, not this one, nor this one, but National Pie Day. So join me for a big slice. Hit the road to try one of America's best, or make one of your own. (Earlier.)

"That's some damn fine coffee you got here in Twin Peaks... and damn good cherry pie."

The Epicurious list mentions Moody's Diner in Waldoboro, Maine as one of their top picks for pie.

Not to speak ill of a Maine instutition, but the cognoscenti of Maine know that real deal is to be found not at Moody's, which is a bit of a tourist trap, rather at Helen's in Machias.

Ayuh.

Speaking of which, caddis and anyone else, did you know Season 2 of Twin Peaks is finally coming out on DVD in April?

Too bad Season 1 is now OOP and running nearly $100 on ebay... *sigh*

They really should have scheduled this for March 14th.

Good thought, mr_roboto, but outside of the US it would have to be July 22nd.

This is the greatest day in the history of days or history.

I will do my part later this evening and tuck into a certain lemon meringue I've been stalking recently.

Faint of Butt writes "Best pie-man in Baltimore. His strawberry-rhubarb is transcendental."

I was just there on Friday. I went for the Chocolate Chess, but the Rhubarb was a big seller in my group.

If they moved National Pie Day back to coincide with Blue Monday, I would call that social progress.

I've been blowing tobacco pies for years. One bite and you go "POOF" in a big cloud and an old display typeface.
