Howard Stern Gets Engaged To Model Girlfriend The King of All Media, the man who brought millions of people to satellite radio (and is guaranteed at least a half billion dollars for doing so), proposed to his long-term girlfriend last night, despite constantly saying that he would never get married again after his first marriage of 20 years failed. {mi}

This post was deleted for the following reason: this is very very against the rules.

Full disclosure, the main link and story is to LA web site, LAist, which I am the editor. I'd have linked somewhere else but as of this time no other major news source has the story. So, yes it's a self-link. If it's not kosher, feel free to flag it.

I don't get what's interesting or newsworthy about this. And I say that as a fan of Howard Stern.

Also a fan of Howard Stern, but I don't think MeFi is for wedding announcements.

I don't know much about Howard Stern other than that he is a loud talker. Really loud. What's with that?

You know you wrong Tsarfan, you know you wrong.
posted by Divine_Wino at 5:33 AM on February 14, 2007

So, did his first wife leave him for his loud talking?

OMG! HOLY FUCKING SHIT! WOW! SERIOUSLY! I MEAN JEEZ! INCREDIBLE! WORDS FAIL ME!

Thats nice. But ...

A lot of people talk loudly on their mobile phones when they're on the train. Or maybe it's just that people don't talk to each other and the person on the mobile phone seems louder.

I'm wrong about what Divine_Wino? Posting a story where I work and then posting it here?

Should I have waited until the east coast woke up so Fox News could write the same story with less quotes and less background and then posted it on Metafilter?

Also, wedding engagements, divorces, and deaths are posted here all the time.

So no, I'd disagree with you DW.

I bet you would.

I'm with DW on this one.

Of course I wouldn't know. It's not like I follow loud talkers off the train and try and ascertain whether or not they are loud talkers generally.
posted by tellurian at 5:50 AM on February 14, 2007

again i ask, what is the crime, posting about something you don't seemingly care about, or scooping the rest of the media and letting Metafilter in on it first?
posted by tsarfan at 5:57 AM on February 14, 2007

No five bucks here - tsarfan's class of 2001. Which makes this all the more puzzling and twattish.

While I can't say whether or not it's newsworthy... It's a self link, which breaks the rules, blatantly. In your rush to be the first to post it to the blue, you've guaranteed that your post is going to be deleted.

But you didn't post the story here, you posted a link to your own fucking website.

Anyway, that's all I have to say other than, Congratulations Howard and Beth.
posted by tellurian at 6:02 AM on February 14, 2007

rush? i took an hour an a half putting together the story, then after brushing my teeth i checked Google News and saw no one else had written it anywhere - which is still the case. then i posted it on the blue. so easy on the "rush" to be the first of a story that's allegedly uninteresting.

tsarfan, newsfilter is generally frowned upon here. If you want to scoop everyone, try fark or somewhere.

Maybe you should have caught the hint...

Stern then said, "I love you. You're everything to me. This is so gay... I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me."

Metatalk link. I don't know what requires bigger balls: the rules-violating self-link or admitting that you are the author of that shitty, poorly written article.
posted by MegoSteve at 6:08 AM on February 14, 2007

Yes, rush. If you couldn't wait for the mainstream media to pick it up (incidentally, the Danbury Connecticut News Times posted it to their site at 6:11 this morning, presumably EST... not mainstream media, but at least visible on Google News, and posted almost 3 hours ago), then I'd consider that "rushing", since you blatantly violated the no self link rule in order to get it posted.

Gee, and I really thought I had a chance with him. Bummer.

Yes.

and then posted it on Metafilter?

No.

At the time that Stern first announced he was leaving terrestrial radio and moving to uncensored satellite, Sirius had 600,000 subscribers, today, 13 months after Stern's arrival, they have over 6 million subscribers who pay at least $13 a month for the foul-mouthed sexually charged comedy.

That's good, XM sucks and is part owned by Clear Channel.

Shouldn't that be FEWER quotes and less background? Fewer is for countable things.

I think you thought this is more interesting than it is. I could care less, and I am a Howard Stern fan.

But a radio DJ (who doesn't play music and isn't actually on the radio anymore) is getting married. This is big. My life is totally different now that I know this. If tsarfan hadn't given us this important information we all would be living huge lies of lives. Thank you tsarfan for sacrificing your Mefi membership for the good of us all.

In the context of Fox, "less" works fine Grumblebee.

I'm assuming that's also a negative? Why, because they fired him?

tsarfan: what part about "linking to your own site or a project you worked on in this space will result in a deletion and your account will be banned" didn't you quite understand?
