Howard Stern Gets Engaged To Model Girlfriend The King of All Media, the man who brought millions of people to satellite radio (and is guaranteed at least a half billion dollars for doing so), proposed to his long-term girlfriend last night, despite constantly saying that he would never get married again after his first marriage of 20 years failed. {mi}
This post was deleted for the following reason: this is very very against the rules.
I don't get what's interesting or newsworthy about this. And I say that as a fan of Howard Stern.

Also a fan of Howard Stern, but I don't think MeFi is for wedding announcements.

I don't know much about Howard Stern other than that he is a loud talker. Really loud. What's with that?

A lot of people talk loudly on their mobile phones when they're on the train. Or maybe it's just that people don't talk to each other and the person on the mobile phone seems louder.

I'm wrong about what Divine_Wino? Posting a story where I work and then posting it here?
Should I have waited until the east coast woke up so Fox News could write the same story with less quotes and less background and then posted it on Metafilter?
Also, wedding engagements, divorces, and deaths are posted here all the time.
So no, I'd disagree with you DW.

Of course I wouldn't know. It's not like I follow loud talkers off the train and try and ascertain whether or not they are loud talkers generally.

again i ask, what is the crime, posting about something you don't seemingly care about, or scooping the rest of the media and letting Metafilter in on it first?

While I can't say whether or not it's newsworthy... It's a self link, which breaks the rules, blatantly. In your rush to be the first to post it to the blue, you've guaranteed that your post is going to be deleted.

rush? i took an hour an a half putting together the story, then after brushing my teeth i checked Google News and saw no one else had written it anywhere - which is still the case. then i posted it on the blue. so easy on the "rush" to be the first of a story that's allegedly uninteresting.

Yes, rush. If you couldn't wait for the mainstream media to pick it up (incidentally, the Danbury Connecticut News Times posted it to their site at 6:11 this morning, presumably EST... not mainstream media, but at least visible on Google News, and posted almost 3 hours ago), then I'd consider that "rushing", since you blatantly violated the no self link rule in order to get it posted.

At the time that Stern first announced he was leaving terrestrial radio and moving to uncensored satellite, Sirius had 600,000 subscribers, today, 13 months after Stern's arrival, they have over 6 million subscribers who pay at least $13 a month for the foul-mouthed sexually charged comedy.

Shouldn't that be FEWER quotes and less background? Fewer is for countable things.

But a radio DJ (who doesn't play music and isn't actually on the radio anymore) is getting married. This is big. My life is totally different now that I know this. If tsarfan hadn't given us this important information we all would be living huge lies of lives. Thank you tsarfan for sacrificing your Mefi membership for the good of us all.
