Frenchman caught in the act [in french].
This post was deleted for the following reason: "I can't believe I've just spent five minutes watching a video of a man shitting on a plate." -- cortex
We should be so lucky. Cardinal Howie and his Archbishops are abed. It could be hours before this is exorcised, and the perpetrators will probably never be excommunicated.

I don't speak French, so please excuse my ignorance of the language. But as someone who's watched TV for 35 odd years, I think I recognize some familiar narrative shapes here. Average guy, caught in embarassing situation involving poop. Said Poop, which on its own is hilariously earthy within the confines of the culture the TV show is marketed to, is made to appear deeply profane to a culture TV show is not marketed to. (Some symbolism affoot I didn't catch, perhaps.) Ridiculous conflict ensues that validates the earthy humor of the marketed audience at the expense of the 'touchy' outsiders. Group-hugs for the deserving. The End.
Maybe I'm wrong. Translation for the monolingual?

He shat in a tagine, therefore offending North African muslims, as far as I can tell. Which, for mine, makes the gag itself fairly offensive.

That was a really well done piece of shit.
I didn't laugh, exactly, but I appreciated the production values.

The commentary says there is a fatwa being made(? announced? perpetrated?) but it's hard to say what's real here. Less reconstitution and more actuel si voue plait!

Not that I expect this to last...but here goes:
Essentially his "receptacle" was a Moroccan Tajine pot which somehow leads to the Salman Rushdie-esque fatwa. The only way that the fatwa will be called off is if repeats the same act in a fondue pot. And of course he flatly refuses.
Everything else is pretty self-explanatory.

But it was funny - (I speak French) - not crazy funny, but heh-heh-ha funny. Very (well maybe not very) underplayed, and kind of casually going over the top.
Maybe knowing the tone of the commentary (which was very matter of fact quasi-journalist) helped, as the tone of the piece was a big part of the humor.

Hahaha, yes I confess i liked it! (humor is always a good way to address a social problem)
Then again, it had poop in it & I grew up this being my fav. tv-moment

Aha! That actually makes it a bit more of a statement on universal human intolerance and boundaries, doesn't it? I mean, of course the parody was poking fun at perceived knee-jerk intolerance among Muslims, but the Frenchman, with his impassioned "Never! Never!" is displaying a similar face. He's displaying his own culturally-dictated absolute limits on what is acceptable or not. For me, this seems an important point: I think the video is poking fun at him, too.
I also found it amusing that the guy taking a dump in the street was, of course, caught on 1) a cell phone camera, 2) a video camera from an upstairs neighbor and 3) a satellite surveillance system that zeroed right in on his little Parisian street to catch him in the act. This commentary on surveillance society (both on the individual and governmental level) was something that also, for me, helped redeem this little clip.
I dunno, my own opinion is that folks might be being a little too harsh in their criticisms of this post. It's no work of genius, this clip, but I don't think it's completely without merit. I've seen dumber things linked to on the blue without this kind of outcry.

Hey guys, none of it is real. Nothing. No fatwa, no riots in the streets, no refusal to crap in a fondue pot, no changing hotel every few days for the last 6 months, nothing.
Groland is a fictional country used to parody France in satirical psedo-news programs, of which, this was one.
(give away: have you ever seen a camerphone photo that good!)

nielm, with the possible exception of CCBC I'm pretty sure everyone commenting so far is aware that this is a parody. The Groland link is good, though, thanks for that.

One might've thought that this quote ("despoiling the sacred halls of MeFi", indeed!), which happens to come from your own post (and such an excellent one!) would indicate that you are someone who'd be well advised to pause and reconsider before you start calling for betting pools on crappy posts.

I can't believe I've just spent five minutes watching a video of a man shitting on a plate. Even if it's a comedy sketch, this really stretches the old "Best of the Web" MeFi branding.

We should start a betting pool on how long crappy FPPs like this will last. I guess it all depends on how quick our three intrepid mods are.
I give this one 45 minutes tops.
