Radio 1.0 meets Web 2.0. TUN3R is a virtual AM/FM radio for the internet, complete with a little dial and a boss key, creating a uniquely satisfying way to search for radio stations. On a related note, also worth perusing is this discussion of the expanding world of social music sites. That list misses quite a few neat sites including the graphically stylish Musicovery; the Hype Machine, which pulls music from blogs; and Goombah, which reads your iTunes library, but there are many more. OK. Second thought, Optimaal.FM is awesome and in Fresian Dutch, which is like listening to a chicken talk like a duck in Flemish with a German accent.

Your vintage radio dials link is wonderful. My fave is Musicovery.

I like Musicovery as well, though last.fm has its uses as well. For recorded shows, Morning Becomes Eclectic is often fascinating, and World Cafe has some good stuff as well.

the hype machine has been receiving attention for some time, and as the proprietor of a music blog, it has done a helluva' lot of good for the medium

That UI drove me up a wall -- if you clicked on a station, it pushed the page to the top, so you couldn't see the playlist. Until I figured out that the arrow keys work without the annoying page pushing.
